A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has on Tuesday equalled his goal tally for the entirety of the 2025/26 campaign. This comes after João Cancelo continued his stellar recent stretch of individual form in the final third.
Hansi Flick’s Barca are of course currently locked in action, on the continent.
After kicking their campaign back into gear with a comfortable victory over Getafe in La Liga at the weekend, the Blaugrana have made the trip to Istanbul, for a Champions League showdown with Galatasaray.
The two sides are currently deadlocked at a goal apiece, after Aleksey Batrakov’s opener was cancelled out by the aforementioned João Cancelo.
After finding space in behind the hosts’ backline late in the first-half, full-back Cancelo directed a composed finish inside the far post.
And as alluded to above, in the process, the former Manchester City man produced a remarkable statistic. As revealed by ‘StatMuse’ on ‘X’, Cancelo has now scored as many club goals this season as he managed in the entirety of last season (3).
This comes after the Portuguese also netted in his last two appearances for his country during the recent international break.
