Liverpool Must Cut Losses on Florian Wirtz and Replace Him With Endrick

Liverpool must cut their losses on Florian Wirtz, with a deal to replace him with a Real Madrid superstar on the table.

Liverpool suffered the first defeat of their season against Man City at the weekend, but there was a very familiar problem with their performance.

Andoni Iraola was left without Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai due to injury for the clash at Anfield, which meant that Florian Wirtz was given full responsibility for building the attacks for the Reds in the game.

But the Germany international once again struggled with his performance, generating more criticism following a difficult start to life since his £116m move from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025.

Since joining Liverpool , Wirtz has created just four 'big chances' in 39 appearances in the Premier League , while he has registered just six goals and seven assists in all competitions. It's not been good enough, and club legend Jamie Carragher has already seen enough to convince him that the money may have been wasted.

> "There is no way Wirtz should be playing ahead of Gravenberch. What Florian Wirtz is doing for Liverpool is not enough right now. He’s played 55, 60 games for Liverpool.

> “He shouldn’t be in the Liverpool team right now. I don’t want to hammer Liverpool players. But we’re not saying this after five-ten games, we’re saying this after 50-60 games.

> “Wirtz never looks like scoring a goal. You don’t come away thinking he missed chances or he worked the goalkeeper.

> “There was absolutely nothing today where you thought he put someone through, or nearly scored. There’s absolutely no goal threat whatsoever.”

Liverpool often look better without him, and with Szoboszlai in their squad, they have an immediate option who can play as a number ten and perform in the division to replace him.

But the squad will need more than that, and they have seemingly been given the green light to get a deal done in 2027 to bring in a player they were very keen on during the most recent summer window , who would bolster Iraola's squad tremendously.

Liverpool held talks with Real Madrid over a move to sign Brazil and Real Madrid star Endrick during the summer, but the player wanted to stay and fight for his place in Jose Mourinho's side, and Madrid weren't interested in a permanent sale.

So far this season though, Endrick has only featured for four minutes in all competitions, with Mourinho instead preferring to use Carlos Espi as his backup option to Kylian Mbappe up front, while Arda Guler and Yan Diomande have been the main options on the right wing.

Madrid and Endrick have held talks about a potential January move to aid his development, and if Liverpool are able to find an agreement for the superstar youngster, it would help Iraola immensely.

He loves forwards who can interchange across positions and be direct, and Endrick's ability to play across the forward line makes him ideal for that. Adding him to the attacking options alongside the likes of Isak, Gakpo, Hugo Ekitike, Bradley Barcola, Rio Ngumoha, and Victor Munoz would give them a terrifying attack, regardless of the combination selected.

He showed at Lyon last season that he has the quality to make a difference at the top level, and judging by what we've seen, he'd be an upgrade on Wirtz too.
