Atlético Madrid and Manchester United will go head-to-head at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on Tuesday night in the Champions League .

Diego Simeone's side made it four consecutive wins since their defeat to Liverpool by defeating Alaves 2-1 in La Liga this past weekend, while Michael Carrick is winless in his last four games after their 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Saturday evening.

Both sides have got some selection decisions to make ahead of the game, and this is how GIVEMESPORT expects the teams to line up as a result.

Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid will have a full squad to choose from for the visit of Man Utd on Tuesday, with no players reported to have any injuries or suspensions.

Simeone will therefore be able to name his strongest side, which is likely to include Julian Alvarez, Ademola Lookman, and Marc Pubill.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Simeone shared an update on the squad ahead of the game.

> "Regardless of their draws at the start of the season, this is Manchester United we're talking about. I expect an opponent that presses very well in our half, with quick players.

> "Julian Alvarez's lack of goals? Strikers always need goals, not just him. Beyond his finishing ability, he’s a team player who links up very well with his teammates and has many qualities. He played well on Saturday, and hopefully he can reach the level we expect from him.

> "Every player goes through different periods. Nobody maintains the same level all the time. Lookman isn’t at the level he wants or we want, but he works hard every day. He’s a dribbler, and he needs to lose the ball sometimes. Baena, after a difficult season, has confidence and self-belief, and we have to make the most of that."

Man Utd

Man Utd are dealing with a number of injury issues following the international break, with Patrick Dorgu, Noussair Mazraoui, and Benjamin Sesko all unavailable. Manuel Ugarte and Tom Heaton are long-term absentees.

But Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw were also absent from the final training session before the trip to Spain, and are now considered to be doubts for the game. Matthijs De Ligt was in first-team training, but it may be too soon for him to appear following back surgery. Carlos Baleba is pushing for his first start, after an impressive substitute appearance on his debut at the weekend.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Carrick shared an update on his squad ahead of the game.

> "They've [Mainoo and Shaw] not travelled, both picked up issues in the game at the weekend so they're out.

> "We're not light on numbers, it's good for the likes of Dan [Armer] to sample it. He's been around a long time and he's worked so hard to get to this stage.

> "We're still waiting this week to do a few extra tests. We need to make sure we're doing the right things and getting Ben [Sesko] back but I don't have a timeframe for him."

With a number of defensive issues, Carrick could be forced into using Diogo Dalot at left-back, meaning Leny Yoro continues at right-back. With Mainoo missing the game, Baleba should get his debut alongside Youri Tielemans, while Marcus Rashford could come in for former Atleti forward Matheus Cunha.

That could see £175m trio Cunha, Mason Mount and Andrey Santos named on the bench, while youngsters Tyler Fletcher, Jack Fletcher, Harry Amass, Jaydan Kamason, and Shea Lacey are also likely to be included.

Manchester United have suffered a double injury blow ahead of their clash with Atletico Madrid.
