Viking FK is preparing for a monumental UEFA Champions League showdown against Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich, and head coach Bjarte Lunde Aarsheim understands the significance of the occasion.
Despite Viking having faced major European opposition in the past, including Barcelona in 1992 and Chelsea in 2002, Aarsheim believes this encounter stands above them all.
> “Throughout history, Viking played big matches against Barcelona (1992) and Chelsea (2002), but I do believe tomorrow’s match will be the biggest in our history. Bayern is an incredibly good team. We want to take the challenge with joy and face them collectively as a team. A very tough task, but in football anything is possible,” said Lunde Aarsheim (as captured by @iMiaSanMia ).
There is certainly no shortage of respect for the German champions, who boast an extraordinary collection of attacking talent and arrive as one of Europe’s most formidable sides. With Harry Kane leading the line alongside the likes of Michael Olise and Luis Díaz, Bayern have the firepower to punish even the smallest defensive mistake.
However, Aarsheim wants his players to embrace the occasion rather than be overwhelmed by it. Viking will need to remain organized, defend collectively, and take advantage of any opportunities that come their way.
Bayern will undoubtedly be expected to win, but the Norwegian side are determined to make their historic night count. Will the Bavarians cruise to another Champions League victory, or can Viking produce a memorable upset?
