THREE Barcelona stars feature in Europe’s top assisters in 2026-27 so far

It's early days, but there are some real throwbacks in this top 10 as things stand. The post THREE Barcelona stars feature in Europe’s top assisters in 2026-27 so far appeared first on Planet Football .
Bruno Fernandes was the top assist provider in Europe last season, but who will follow in his footsteps this time around?
It’s still early, but here are the players with the most assists in Europe’s top five leagues this season. That’s the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 – and they’re all represented in the top 10 as things stand.
We’re only counting assists in league games. In the case of any ties – and there’s a few in these early days – the player with the fewest minutes ranks higher due to their better ratio.
10. Panos Katseris – 3
Lorient’s Greek wing-back is one of the more unexpected names to feature among Europe’s leading assist-makers this season.
Katseris has registered three assists in just 177 minutes of Ligue 1 football, having made only five appearances. That’s an assist every 59 minutes, a considerably better ratio than most of the players above him.
He edges out a host of more established names for the final place in our top 10.
9. Dani Olmo – 3
Olmo has appeared as a substitute in five of his eight La Liga appearances this season, but has already got three assists.
Barcelona’s creative and attacking options this season are absurd. Raphinha currently leads Europe’s five major leagues for goals scored, and he also has three assists (missing out on this top 10 due to minutes played)
8. Paulo Dybala – 4
Dybala bounced back from some injury issues towards the back end of last season to help fire Roma back into the Champions League, and he’s kept up his revival at the start of the new campaign too.
The Argentine attacker has an excellent connection with Donyell Malen, so much so that he assisted every goal of the Dutchman’s hat-trick against Fiorentina in the Serie A leaders’ opening game.
Dybala got another assist in Roma’s win over Atalanta, and set Malen up again versus Torino, but the latter wasn’t credited as an assist because the ball made contact with a defender in between, and so he’s still on four for the season.
7. Pascal Gross – 4
Everyone’s favourite FPL this season. The veteran is a future Fantasy Premier League cult hero if we ever saw one.
Back at Brighton after his spell with Borussia Dortmund, Gross has wasted little time reminding everyone of his qualities.
The 35-year-old has registered four assists in six Premier League appearances, playing every minute so far. It’s like he never left.
6. Florian Thauvin – 4
The one-time Newcastle United flop is enjoying a productive start to the season with Lens, registering four assists in his opening six Ligue 1 appearances.
Now 33, Thauvin has played every minute of the campaign so far and remains an influential creative presence. His four assists have come from a mixture of crosses, corners, free-kicks and through balls. Got it all in his locker.
5. Cristian Casseres – 4
The Venezuelan played every minute of Toulouse’s opening six league games and has provided an assist in three of them, including two in the 2-2 draw with Lorient. He’s now joined at the top of Ligue 1’s assists chart by Thauvin.
Four assists betters his tally from each of the past three seasons in the French top flight, since his move from New York City back in 2023.
4. Anthony Gordon – 4
Gordon must be having the time of his life. It raised a few eyebrows when Barcelona decided to sign him from Newcastle United this summer, but the English winger has made a positive start to life in La Liga.
Within two minutes of coming on for his debut against Elche, Gordon made an assist – and he added a second just four minutes later.
That impactful cameo set him up for more starting opportunities, with Gordon subsequently getting assists against Rayo Vallecano and Valencia.
His career-best tally for assists in a single league season is the 10 he managed with Newcastle in 2023-24. A new personal best should be well within reach at this rate, although in-form Karim Adeyemi gives him tough competition for a starting spot in Hansi Flick’s first-choice XI.
3. Lamine Yamal – 5
Top for dribbles.
Second for goals scored.
And nobody has notched more assists.
The 19-year-old fancies himself as the best footballer in the world and he might just have a point.
2. Javi Hernandez – 4
Nope, not the former Manchester United striker. This Hernandez has made his breakthrough in La Liga this season after returning to Espanyol from a loan spell with Mirandes.
The Barcelona-born attacking midfielder hit the ground running with assists in five of his first eight games in the Spanish top flight, including one against Real Madrid.
1. Marco Grull – 5
A surprise name among the top-rated players by WhoScored across the top European leagues this season.
The Austrian has made a sublime start to the season with Werder Bremen, with two goals alongside his five assists. He’s averaging a goal contribution every 64 minutes so far this season, which isn’t a million miles off the likes of Yamal, Kane, Raphinha and Olise.
