Real Madrid are confident of signing a Man Utd star, with a final decision close.

Real Madrid are now confident of sealing a deal to sign Manchester United star JJ Gabriel, with a final decision close, according to reports in Spain.

The Red Devils had been preparing to make the teenager their youngest-ever player earlier this season, with the then-15-year-old lined up to make his professional debut against Brighton in the EFL Cup.

But the teenager and his representatives shocked the club by putting in a request for their registration with the club to be terminated , as they felt that he should have been involved in the squad for the Premier League game with Ipswich, and the Champions League game against Sabah already.

United have been keen to keep hold of him and convince him that his future does lay at Old Trafford, but after the youngster turned 16 last week, they now have less control over his future.

Gabriel is close to securing a Cypriot passport, which would allow him to make a move to a European club, although his parents would have to show proof of a non-footballing reason to move abroad for FIFA to green-light the deal .

That is not understood to be a straightforward process, but according to reliable Real Madrid reporter Jose Felix Diaz, Madrid are now confident of being able to welcome the forward to the Bernabeu in the near future.

A final decision is still to be made, with fellow European giants Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona all also having held talks with Gabriel's representatives about signing him.

It's expected that the final decision will be made soon, and the belief is that Real Madrid are going to be the winners in the race, with a move to Spain always believed to be the priority.

Ever since United had to convince JJ Gabriel to stay at the club instead of moving to Man City two summers ago, it's clear that the player already had eyes on moving elsewhere.

There has regularly been speculation about his future, and while United would love for him to stay put considering his immeasurable talent and quality, it now looks inevitable that he will be on the move in the near future.

United will be gutted to lose him, but as long as he doesn't go to a direct rival, they'll avoid the direct hit that could come with it. Real Madrid will be adding to their incredible array of talent already at the club, but whether Gabriel will get the assurances and opportunities in Spain that he was planned to get with Man Utd is yet to be seen.
