Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma was caught on camera confronting Liverpool supporters in the crowd at the end of Manchester City’s 3-0 Premier League victory at Anfield on Sunday afternoon after being subjected to chants of ‘cheats’ throughout the game.
Donnarumma was in goal for City as Enzo Maresca’s side maintained their 100% win record at the start of the 2026-27 Premier League season with an emphatic 3-0 win away against Liverpool. This was Donnarumma’s third clean sheet in six league matches.
City made headlines across the football world during the international break following the confirmation that they have been found guilty of 114 breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules, with rival supporters calling for punishments ranging from unprecedented fines to points deductions and even potentially relegation.
Their first game back after the guilty verdict was on Sunday, away against Liverpool at Anfield, where the City players were greeted by boos, banners and chants labelling them ‘cheats’.
Despite claiming a 3-0 victory away from home, Donnarumma was clearly frustrated with the treatment he received at the full-time whistle, re-emerging from the tunnel to confront a group of Liverpool supporters while chants of ‘cheats’ continued to ring out.
He was swiftly escorted down the tunnel by a member of the Manchester City staff.
