Bayern Munich will head to Norway to play against Viking FK in the Champions League. The Norwegian side plays on artificial turf—a surface alien even to Bayern’s experienced players. Not wanting to take any risks, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany elected to train on artificial turf in Munich before leaving for Stavanger.
> “In my 20-year career, I never played on artificial turf,” Kompany explained (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia ). “That’s why it’s better to train there first and find out what boots to wear. Whether it’s in America or Norway, whether the sun is shining or not: it doesn’t matter. We want to be Bayern wherever we go. We want to learn as much as possible ahead of the match in Norway.”
This decision aligns with Bayern’s philosophy of gaining every possible advantage over their opponents, following the club’s recent move to completely close off training sessions to the public.
