Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca brushed off his club's conviction on 114 Premier League charges on Sunday night and insisted: 'We have to make our own noise.'
Maresca was laughing and in high spirits after the 3-0 win kept City three points clear at the top of the Premier League, repeatedly describing the controversy around the guilty charges as 'noise' and insisting he 'didn't care' how long the club's appeal took.
> He said: 'The noise will always be there so we need to learn how to deal with that but at the same time we need to try and bring our noise, which is win games which is what we have done today. At the end of the game, our fans were singing so the noise was from us and not the environment. > > 'All the away games are going to be with noise so we need to learn how to deal with the noise. And at the same time, we need to make our noise. Our noise is we're singing at the end, our fans, and this has to be our target at the moment.'
City maintaining Premier League ascendancy while Liverpool 's fans branded them 'cheats' and taunted them with chants of 'going down' discredits the competition. But on the question of an appeal dragging on, the Italian said: 'You cannot imagine how happy I am. I don't care.'
He also insisted that off-field issues may galvanise his team, who have won their first six games of the campaign. 'Probably yes, probably no. I don't know,' he said. 'It can create togetherness with the fans. Hopefully we can celebrate a win. This is the only thing we can focus on.'
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola said of the situation created by City's appeal: 'Uncertainty is not good for anyone. But it is what it is, we cannot change it. We have to wait.'
He also said his players had performed well before the dismissal of Ryan Gravenberch for a second yellow card after a foul on substitute Jeremy Doku. The Dutchman should never have been booked for a first challenge on Elliot Anderson, Iraola insisted.
Liverpool, whose defeat leaves them ninth, have won only four Premier League games at Anfield in ten months. But Iraola said: 'You learn a lot in games like today. I am very proud of my players. They put the work rate and everything in today. It's a loss and we didn't get anything from the performance but I liked it a lot.' He said it was unlikely Dominik Szoboszlai will be back from a hamstring to face Austrian side LASK on Wednesday.
Erling Haaland, whose father Alf-Inge was among City's fans celebrating when he scored City's first, said: 'It's important to stay strong mentally, stick together and do what you can do something about and the thing we can do something about is to play good football and fight together. That's the only thing we can do. It was tough. It was hard but we showed amazing character from back to front.'
