Liverpool Players Rated And Slated After Man City Defeat

The Reds were good until they went down to ten men

Liverpool were beaten late on in their Premier League clash with Manchester City, falling foul of going down to ten men following a red card for Ryan Gravenberch.

The Reds controlled large parts of the match in what was a hostile atmosphere at Anfield as Liverpool were the first team to face City since the guilty verdict was delivered against the Citizens over their 115 financial breaches.

The home side started on the front foot, despite missing several key players, getting at their under pressure and under fire visitors from the off and putting them under the cosh.

But after Gravenberch's red card, they crumbled and goals from Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki ensure City continued their 100% start to the season.

GIVEMESPORT runs the rule over the Liverpool players on the day, delilvering a school report style ratings for those that starred.

Alisson - B-

Had nothing to do in the first half except deal with a long-ranger from Enzo Fernandez.

Should have been breached by Erling Haaland before he was then beaten by the Norwegian. Could do nothing about Jeremy Doku's sensational curling effort, nor Cherki's third.

Ronald Araujo - C

Picked up an unnecessary early yellow card for brandishing an imaginary yellow card at the referee to try and get Marc Guehi booked.

Was then far too easily skinned by Antoine Semenyo as the City forward got down his side and played a delicious ball across the box. was replaced by Jeremie Frimpong.

Virgil van Dijk - C-

Dealt with Erling Haaland relatively comfortably...until he didn't.

Gave the big Norwegian a sniff when he allowed him to go through onto a Semenyo through ball that Haalanad amazingly missed and then just gave him a yard that he pounced on to put City ahead with a sweeping shot.

Jeremy Jacquet - C

Has had a good start to life in the Premier League and was not really troubled through the centre until late in the game.

Arguably it was his leader van Dijk who was at fault for Haaland's opener, but he lost his man too easily for Cherki's goal.

Milos Kerkez - D

Was given a tough time as both Iliman Ndiaye and Rayan Cherki got down his side at will and was given little help by those in front of him.

Semenyo then tried in the second half and got the better of him too.

Ryan Gravenberch - C

Drove out of his own territory with the ball at his feet early on in the contest in a move that had Gary Neville purring on Sky Sports' coverage, comparing him to Patrick Vieira.

He was Liverpool's best player on the day until he was sent off just after the hour mark for a second yellow card on Jeremy Doku. Both yellow cards were

Alexis Mac Allister - C-

Went about his business in the middle of the park with little fuss.

Didn't do too badly in a defensive sense and did see one long-range effort flash just wide. Not one of his best showings.

Florian Wirtz - C-

Was criticised by Gary Neville on Sky Sports' commentary, and perhaps rightly so for some poor touches, but some of his good moments seemed to go unnoticed.

Needs to have much more impact on a match than he does, for the price that he cost.

Victor Munoz - B-

Started the game so well. He is a real livewire and always wants to attack his man. A proper winger.

Gave it a good go at trying to get Liverpool moving in the right direction, but did not have much in the way of assistance.

Bradley Barcola - D

Didn't really get into the game in the first half, but came alive right at the start of the second, nicking the ball in Man City territory and then playing through Lewis Koumas.

Did little thereafter and it was a surprise to see him play the full 90 minutes given how anonymous he was.

Lewis Koumas - C

Given a start in the absence of Alexander Isak and looked bright from the outset, giving Marc Guehi all sorts of problems.

Stung the palms of Donnarumma with a strike early in the second half.

Substitutes

Trey Nyoni - C

Gave away a couple of fouls, brought on to do a thankless task.

Rio Ngumoha - C

Did not do too much in his time on the pitch.

Jeremie Frimpong - D

Was put on his backside by Cherki, completely failing in his duty to stop City's third goal.

Joe Gomes - N/A

No time to do anything.

Federico Chiesa - N/A

No time to do anything.
