Man Utd Fans Name Michael Carrick Replacement After Spurs Draw

Michael Carrick is under increasing pressure after yet another poor performance by Manchester United.

Former Red Devils player Carrick was appointed United head coach after bringing the team back into the UEFA Champions League during his interim spell following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal.

Heading into the 26/27 campaign, there was optimism at Old Trafford, with the club spending big money to add much-needed quality to Carrick’s squad.

However, the early season optimism quickly evaporated as United have endured another dismal start to the season.

On Saturday evening, Carrick’s men failed to hold on to a 1-0 lead against 10-man Spurs as Dominic Solanke scored a late equaliser to earn Roberto De Zerbi’s men a 1-1 draw.

As a result, United sit 12th in the Premier League table, having collected just six points from six matches.

Against Spurs, the Red Devils were way below par as the visitors could have been three or four goals up if they had brought their shooting boots. Bryan Mbeumo’s 71st-minute strike looked like it was going to be the winner, but Spurs mounted a late charge.

Under Carrick this season, United have only won two matches across all competitions, against newly promoted Ipswich Town in the Premier League and Champions League debutants Sabah.

They were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup after throwing away a 2-0 lead at Old Trafford to lose 3-2 against Brighton and Hove Albion.

With United producing yet another dismal display, some have called on the club to take action and remove Carrick from his post.

Taking to social media, a few fans believe that Aston Villa boss Unai Emery should replace Carrick at Old Trafford. One fan said:

> “Carrick has to go. The honeymoon period is so far gone and he’s out of his depth. We should act fast especially whilst all are in a bad place and Em could be enticed.”

Another tweeted: “Sack Carrick and get Unai Emery.” A third fan added: “Again I will prefer an Unai Emery to any other manager to replace Carrick.”

Someone else wrote: “Whether I like it or not, Lose the next 2 and I’d imagine they’ll let Carrick go…Hand on heart not interested in ANY manager linked to the club. Get Emery or just keep him.”

A fifth commented: “No Englishman has ever won the PL as a manager and Carrick is not going to break that. Pay Villa whatever for Unai Emery.”

Emery is often regarded as one of the finest managers in world football, having taken charge of teams such as Sevilla, Paris Saint Germain, Arsenal and Villarreal before moving to Villa Park.

Although the Spaniard’s first stint in the Premier League ended in disarray at Arsenal, he has managed to rebuild his reputation by taking Villa to new heights.

After winning the Europa League with Villa last season, Emery has had a tough time following the club’s decision to sell key players such as Ezri Konsa, Youri Tielemans, Lucas Digne and Ollie Watkins.

However, it can be said that with his track record, Emery could indeed be the right man to take United forward should they think Carrick is surplus to requirements.

Man Utd and Tottenham battled to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
