Gordon scores first Barcelona goal as leaders equal best LaLiga start

England forward Anthony Gordon scored his first goal for Barcelona as the Spanish league leaders eased to a 3-0 win over Getafe and equalled their best-ever LaLiga start.

Gordon had played well and contributed with a handful of assists since joining from Newcastle this summer, but had been denied a goal until this weekend.

He remedied that two minutes into the match against Getafe at Camp Nou where the left winger dribbled past two defenders and rifled a deflected shot past goalkeeper David Soria.

Gabriel Jesus made the most of his first start since he also joined Barcelona this summer by scoring in the 29th minute.

Taking the place of injured top scorer Raphinha , the former Arsenal striker picked off an unwise pass by Zaid Romero inside his own box and fired home.

Lamine Yamal rounded off Barca's eighth straight LaLiga win in the 73rd minute when he curled a cross into the box for right back Jules Kounde to tap in.

Bayern Munich concede fastest Bundesliga goal in Augsburg draw

Manuel Neuer gave away the Bundesliga's fastest ever goal in a forgettable afternoon for Bayern Munich.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said his team's visit to Augsburg was a "priority game" but he couldn't have imagined making a worse start to a game that ultimately ended in a 2-2 draw.

It began with Bayern playing the ball back from the kick-off to Neuer, who botched his attempt at a chipped clearance and allowed Robin Fellhauer to score after just eight seconds.

Bayern had to wait till the 55th minute for Ismael Saibari to equalize, only for Rodrigo Ribeiro to restore the home team's lead nine minutes later.

Luis Díaz had two goals ruled out through VAR for offside before Nathaniel Brown finally equalised in the 81st minute.

Bayer Leverkusen, the only team to break Bayern's dominance in any of the last 14 seasons, held on for a 4-3 win in Mainz, continuing thir upturn in form under Spanish coach Carles Martinez.

Livan Burcu scored late for Union Berlin to beat promoted Elversberg 1-0 for their first win of the season.

Miro Muheim scored in stoppage time for Hamburger SV to win at Hoffenheim 3-2, and Stuttgart enjoyed a 2-0 win in Paderborn.

Mourinho hits out at 'ridiculous' Mbappe criticism

Jose Mourinho labelled criticism of Kylian Mbappe "ridiculous" and suggested there is a media campaign to get him booed during Real Madrid's meeting with Villarreal at the Bernabeu this weekend.

Mbappe was heavily criticised when he was pictured cycling after suffering an injury with France during the international break but Mourinho feels the situation was taken out of context and vowed to start him against Villarreal.

> "I don't lie. The truth is that in this period, Real Madrid's players have been exemplary professionally," Mourinho said. "Those who were injured came straight to Valdebebas, got their diagnosis, and got their rehab plan.

> "Mbappe was here, he got his diagnosis, he went to an external consultant, because his knee has a history that you can't forget, and there was total agreement between Real Madrid's diagnosis and this external consultant.

> "In terms of his recovery, you don't have to know all the details. But then we get into the area of looking for problems.

> "[In Paris] it was a nightclub that wasn't a nightclub," Mourinho added. "It was a nightclub that had been transformed for a private event. Then in Switzerland, it was just a hotel, with little houses, and each house had some bikes to get to where the restaurants and spa was. It was absolute tranquillity.

> "You don't have to be Einstein to see that this is the objective," Mourinho said. "I hope the Bernabeu can be fair, and that means being intelligent, being able to read between the lines.

> "One thing I promise is that when a Real Madrid player doesn't behave like a Real Madrid player, they won't see that player on the bench. They won't have the chance to whistle, because they'll be at home.

> "So tomorrow Mbappe will play. He won't be on the bench, and if he plays, it's because I'm sure that he hasn't failed Real Madrid. He hasn't failed to fulfil his obligations."

McTominay back in training with Napoli after heart procedure

Scott McTominay has returned to training with Napoli for the first time since undergoing a heart procedure last month.

The Scotland international, 29, received corrective ablation treatment in the Spire Manchester Hospital after being diagnosed with a mild, benign arrhythmia in September.

The procedure was declared a success, with the midfielder prescribed a period of rest before rejoining the Serie A side. He had previously taken to Instagram to tell fans “See you soon Napoli, I won’t take long”.

The club confirmed on Wednesday that he had been cleared for duty after further check-ups and posted pictures of him working alongside team-mates ahead of their weekend clash against Frosinone.

A short update read: “On Wednesday, Scott McTominay underwent further diagnostic tests, which showed that he is fit to play. (He) therefore resumed training with the rest of the team after the period spent training separately.”

The former Manchester United man has played twice this season, coming off after 56 minutes against Como before his heart issue was detected. He missed the next three games as well as the recent international break with Scotland.

Lineker backs ‘deserving’ Harry Kane to win the Ballon d’Or

A “deserving” Harry Kane has been backed by Gary Lineker to win the Ballon d’Or after he hailed the England captain as “phenomenal”.

Kane matched Peter Shilton’s 125-cap England record against Czechia and scored twice in a 3-0 Nations League win at Wembley.

Kane’s international tally now stands at 91, and he has struck eight times in as many appearances for England and Bayern Munich so far this season.

It comes after the former Tottenham striker scored 61 goals for Bayern and netted 12 times for England last term.

Earlier this year, Kane, 33, surpassed Lineker to become England’s all-time leading World Cup scorer.

> “What Harry Kane has done is truly incredible,” said Lineker, speaking at a Leaders Week conference at Stamford Bridge. “It really is. He is such a brilliant finisher. He is so accurate with both feet and great in the air, too.

> “He is not just a penalty box player like I was. I would just lurk around and get the odd goal, but you saw him last night, he was clearing up at the back, too. He is a phenomenal footballer, incredibly intelligent, a really good guy, and what a career he has had.

> “So, I would love to see him win it (the Ballon d’Or). We have never had a Ballon d’Or winner because the other previous winners, including Michael Owen and Kevin Keegan, were European Footballers of the Year.

> “It would be very well deserved, and it is either going to be him, or Lamine Yamal. So, hopefully he (Kane) will win a Ballon d’Or, and even more importantly, hopefully he will win something with England one day.”

The ceremony for the 70th edition of the individual accolade will take place in London to commemorate the first winner, Sir Stanley Matthews, on October 26.

It is business as usual for Jesus, who has refused to get involved in a public war of words with Ronaldo.

The Portugal head coach stopped briefly to talk to journalists outside his house today.

> "I read the statement, and now, as I do every day, I'm going to the federation to work and to think about the national team," Jesus said.

In the latest poll run by A Bola today, 71 per cent of fans believe Ronaldo should not play for Portugal again.

Some 6 per cent think Jesus broke his word and 7 per cent want Ronaldo to be Portugal's player-manager.

'I didn't read Ronaldo's statement,' says Jesus amid controversy

Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus says he will respond to Cristiano Ronaldo’s statement after he has had time to read it.

Jesus and Ronaldo had a major falling out during the international break and Ronaldo released a long statement on Tuesday night with his side of the story.

The 41-year-old, whose actions had raised doubts over his international future, accused Portugal's new head coach Jorge Jesus of broken promises in a near 2,000-word statement to his 679 million Instagram followers.

Jesus was at a Portugal U21 game when the statement was released but reporters were waiting for him when he returned home to Aroeira, just south of Lisbon.

> “I didn’t read Cristiano’s statement,” Jesus said. “I was watching the U21 game. I will now have time to read it.”

According to the latest opinion polls in Portugal, most football fans are supporting Jesus in his bitter dispute with Ronaldo.

His statement has shone a light on his influence at the highest levels of Portuguese football, with many questioning why he was involved – according to his statement – in Jesus’ appointment in July.

Nations League round-up: Merino comes up clutch again for Spain

Spain preserved their two-and-a-half year unbeaten streak by rallying to beat Croatia thanks to a clutch second-half double from super-sub Mikel Merino.

Merino, who has been a star off the bench so many times for Spain in recent years, powered home an 88th-minute strike to complete the world champions' stirring recovery in a 2-1 win in Split.

The Arsenal midfielder had already equalised in the 61st minute after coming on as a half-time substitute, with Spain trailing to a goal by Ivan Perisic.

That marked the first time Spain had gone behind since June 2024.

Spain join Portugal as the only team to win all of their group games in the Nations League over the last two weeks.
