Build a lineup for your football team with this easy-to-use soccer formation generator

Building a football team lineup is very easy to do — just follow our guide below or have a play around.

The default setting is 11 players, but this can be changed to suit your needs. For example, if you want to come up with a starting lineup for your local 7-a-side tournament or simply want to build your dream 5-a-side team. You can make teams with 11 players, 10 players, nine players, eight players, seven players, six players or five players.

Next, pick your formation, whether it's old-school 4-4-2 in the style of Sir Alex Ferguson, 3-5-2 with flying full-backs or a Park the Bus 5-3-2. If you've played EA Sports FC or Football Manager , or if you're simply a tactics buff, you'll be well aware of which formations you prefer. If you want to make subtle tweaks to the formation, you can drag and move players into different positions. For example, if you want to play a 4-4-2 with a second striker who is withdrawn from the target man, just drag the player on the pitch accordingly.

This is the important (and sometimes hardest) part. Once you've got your team in mind, simply tap or click on the box of the position you wish to fill and type in the player's name, then hit enter. Are you going to go for Patrick Vieira or Roy Keane in your All-Time Premier League XI ( Zinedine Zidane went for Vieira, as it happens, see below )? Does Cristiano Ronaldo make it into your Dream Five-A-Side Team? These are the tough questions, but you'll figure it all out.

Now, for the kit colours. You can choose a base colour and a border colour from any colour in the glorious ROYGBIV spectrum. Will it be red and white like the mighty Gunners, or all white in the style of Real Madrid? Maybe you're a fan of the Dutch Orange . The palette is yours.

If you need it, you can add some subs too. You can add up to nine substitute players to your team.

Once you're happy with your lineup, the kit colours and formation, the next step is to tap the ' Download JPEG ' button and save the image to your device. Once you've got it, you can then share it with your friends online on social media or in your WhatsApp groups.
