Sky Sports announce big change to Man Utd vs Tottenham coverage

Viewers of Manchester United vs Tottenham on Sky Sports will have new options afforded to them

Sky Sports are implementing new audio features for the coverage of Manchester United's clash against Tottenham. The two clubs meet on Saturday evening at Old Trafford, with the broadcaster showcasing the match live at 5pm, ahead of kick-off 30 minutes later.

The two new accessibility features that Sky Sports will introduce across Premier League coverage, starting with the fixture at Old Trafford, are Live Descriptive Audio Commentary and live subtitles throughout the action to help blind fans get involved.

The broadcaster's decision has come just two days after World Sight Day (Thursday, October 8). The annual global event seeks to raise awareness about blindness and visual impairment, as well as the requirement for better eye care.

The new features will allow supporters with visual impairments to stay informed during the match, including player movement, substitutions and refereeing signals.

The Live Descriptive Audio Commentary feature will be used for only one match per week following United's clash against Spurs. However, the live subtitles will be a constant fixture in matches from now on, as around 210 matches per season will offer them.

They've already been merged into Sky's existing system, with fans able to activate the Live Descriptive Audio Commentary through voice control. Feedback from customers and the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) led to the decision, which was launched in collaboration with Guinness.

> Sky's Karin Seymour said: "This partnership is a great example of how sponsorship can go beyond traditional brand activity and deliver something tangible for audiences. > > "By co-funding the initiative with Guinness, Sky Media is bringing accessibility improvements to show how brands can use the scale of sports sponsorship to create a meaningful and lasting impact for fans."

Tension will be heavy at Old Trafford with Michael Carrick in desperate need of a positive result after managing just one win in United's opening five league games. The pressure is arguably greater on Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi, who has led Spurs to the bottom of the table after the first two months of the season.
