Arsenal given pre-Leeds travel update as Chelsea supporters warned about Bournemouth
· FootballLondon
Arsenal and Chelsea fans heading to Premier League matches this weekend are warned to plan their journeys carefully, as London Underground closures and travel disruption could cause major delays.
Arsenal and Chelsea supporters are being urged to prepare ahead of time, as weekend travel updates may result in significant delays when travelling to the fixture. With the Premier League resuming this weekend, fans of two of the capital's most prominent clubs will encounter travel complications.
Arsenal Tube Station, which had been shut following concerns it may 'be sinking' after damage to infrastructure, has now reopened ahead of the game against Leeds United. Arsenal fans had been recommended to travel via Highbury and Islington, Holloway Road or Finsbury Park.
Arsenal's fixture against Leeds United is scheduled for 12.30pm on Saturday, October 10. The Gunners are presently positioned second in the standings, while Leeds occupy fifth place.
Chelsea supporters will encounter difficulties as the District line faces disruption. Services will not call at Fulham Broadway, the nearest station to the stadium, while engineering work takes place on the Wimbledon branch throughout Saturday and Sunday.
This development will come as little surprise to Chelsea fans, given that Fulham Broadway has experienced frequent weekend closures over recent months.
This will also impact travellers needing to journey between Edgware Road/Tower Hill and Ealing Broadway, Kensington (Olympia), and Richmond.
Fans travelling to the Chelsea versus Bournemouth fixture on Saturday afternoon are advised to use the Piccadilly line to Earl's Court, which is a 27-minute walk from the stadium. The match gets underway at 3pm.
Should these alternatives prove unsuitable, fans can alternatively utilise the Mildmay Line to or from West Brompton or Imperial Wharf, which provides connections to national rail services southbound at Clapham Junction or to Central line services northbound at Shepherd's Bush.
Chelsea are presently positioned 10th in the standings and will be welcoming Bournemouth, who occupy 17th place.
Several Underground lines will be suspended and passengers are urged to plan their journeys in advance.
