Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has on Friday moved to throw his full backing behind Blancos star Dean Huijsen. This comes amid what have been a tumultuous last few days for the young defender.

Huijsen for his part took his place front and centre in the media headlines across Spain earlier this week.

Whilst at the wheel of his car, accompanied by Real Madrid teammate Thiago Pitarch, the former Bournement talent was spotted on his phone.

The ensuing photos of Huijsen spread like wildfire across the press and social media, amid widespread backlash for what was labelled as illegal activity: texting whilst driving.

Speaking during an appearance in front of the media on Friday, the aforementioned José Mourinho was therefore asked for his take on the situation.

And the Portuguese tactician made use of the opportunity to launch a stern defence of Huijsen, responding:

> “You all have made Huijsen look like a criminal… just because he was on the phone while he was parked outside Thiago Pitarch’s house.”
