JJ Gabriel has been the talk of the town in recent weeks after stopping training with Manchester United and making it clear that he wants to leave the club.
Given the 16-year-old prodigy’s talent and potential, almost every top club in Europe is eyeing a move for the youngster, with FC Barcelona also very much involved.
Even though Barça sporting director Deco issued comments distancing the club from the teenager’s pursuit, the club are tracking the English starlet, along with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and PSG.
Barcelona, Real Madrid in the lead
Building on that, Sky Sport Germany now reports that it is Barcelona and Real Madrid who are the best placed clubs in the race to sign Gabriel.
Bayern Munich are very much keen on signing the Manchester United starlet, but as things stand, he appears to prefer to a move to Spain.
This gives Barça and Real Madrid the best chances of securing the services of the 16-year-old wonderkid, who could leave the Red Devils as early as the January transfer window.
Total cost to exceed €10 million
Recent reports suggested that Manchester United could seek a low training compensation of a little over €300,000 for Gabriel . Furthermore, it was suggested that the English starlet was seeking a seven-figure annual salary.
However, now, as per the aforementioned outlet, the total cost of the operation could end up in excess of €10-15 million.
Indeed, Sky Germany claims that the total package, including the transfer fee, bonuses, and other payments, would be well over €10-15 million.
This could pose an issue for some of the interested parties, including Barcelona, as there may be some reluctance in shelling out such sums for only a 16-year-old prospect.
What works in Barça’s favour is that Gabriel seems determined to secure a move to Spain, and the club’s rich history of academy youngsters making it big in the first team.
Whether the Blaugrana are willing to shell out that sum now remains the big question as the chase for Gabriel enters the decisive stages.
