All 25 managers sacked by Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis as he axes another

The number of managers let go by Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has reached the quarter-century mark
Deaths, taxes and Evangelos Marinakis sacking a manager every few months are three of life's certainties. The colourful Nottingham Forest owner has been at it again.
No, Oliver Glasner remains in situ at the City Ground despite a sluggish start to the season for Forest. The Greek shipping magnate has swung the axe at one of his other clubs, Olympiacos, sacking Jose Luis Mendilibar, the man who led the club to Conference League glory in 2024.
Mendilibar has been dismissed despite not losing a match inside 90 minutes so far this season. Olympiacos are a respectable third in the Greek top flight, two points behind bitter early leaders Panetolikos.
He becomes the 25th manager to be dismissed by Marinakis, who also owns Portuguese side Rio Ave, across his three clubs. Here's a round-up…
Nottingham Forest (took over in 2017)
Mark Warburton (sacked December 2017): After helping Forest avoid relegation to the third tier in 2016/17, he was axed nine months into a two-and-a-half-year contract.
Aitor Karanka (mutual termination, January 2019): This was more of a mutual separation after the Spaniard fell out with Marinakis with Forest seventh in the Championship table.
Martin O'Neill (sacked June 2019): Not even a Forest European Cup-winning legend was safe. O'Neill was let go after just five months after reportedly falling out with players.
Sabri Lamouchi (sacked October 2020): The Frenchman lasted an impressive (by Marinakis' standards) 15 months, almost leading Forest into the Championship play-offs in 2020. Four games and four defeats into the following season, Lamouchi was given his marching orders.
Chris Hughton (sacked September 2021): After guiding Forest to safety in 2020/21, the veteran boss paid the price for six defeats in seven games.
Steve Cooper (sacked December 2023): The Welshman led Forest to promotion to the Premier League in 2022, ending a 23-year absence from the top flight, and then kept them up the following season. However, a run of five defeats in six games saw him given the boot.
Nuno Espirito Santo (sacked September 2025): The respected Portuguese boss had guided Forest to seventh place and European football just a few months earlier. But the appointment of Edu as head of global football was the beginning of the end. Nuno speaking out against his boss didn't help matters either and he was sacked just three games into last season. Meanwhile, Edu formally left the club earlier this month.
Ange Postecoglou (sacked October 2025): Going from a conservative coach to an all-out attacking one looked questionable at the time. And so it proved with the Aussie lasting just 39 days.
Sean Dyche (sacked February 2026): The dream job became a nightmare for the former Forest trainee. Results weren't actually that bad but after Marinakis consulted the players, he opted to swing the axe again - this time on a 114-day reign.
Vitor Pereira (left in July 2026 after mutual termination clause triggered): Despite steering Forest to safety and the semi-finals of the Europa League, the Portuguese coach was let go and replaced by Glasner.
Olympiacos (took over in 2010)
Ewald Lienen (sacked August 2010): The head coach was shown the door after Olympiacos were surprisingly knocked out of the Europa League in the third qualifying round by Maccabi Tel-Aviv.
Leonardo Jardim (sacked January 2013): After replacing Ernesto Valverde, who had resigned, Jardim was sacked despite Olympiacos being well clear at the top of the table.
Michel (sacked January 2015): After a whopping two years at the helm, the Spaniard may have been thinking about a testimonial. Instead, despite a run of five runs in a row, he was brutally sacked.
Victor Sanchez (sacked August 2016): Marco Silva's successor was axed after less than two months in charge following the team's failure to reach the Champions League group stage.
Paulo Bento (sacked March 2017): You'd think topping the league by seven points would be enough to keep a manager in a job, wouldn't you? Nope. Bento was gone just seven months after taking charge.
Besnik Hasi (sacked September 2017): The Serbian got the chop following a defeat to local rivals AEK Athens. He was in charge for just 109 days.
Takis Lemonis (sacked January 2018): Lemonis' fourth reign at the club was ended by Marinakis, who thought the grass was greener elsewhere.
Oscar Garcia (mutual consent April 2018): Perhaps realising he wasn't working in the most stable of environments, Garcia decided to walk away with the club's blessing before the end of the season.
Pedro Martins (sacked August 2022): Despite having just penned a two-year extension, Martins was given his cards after losing a Champions League qualifier.
Carlos Corberan (sacked September 2022): Another blink-and-you-missed reign, which lasted barely seven weeks. Corberan was soon back in the dugout with West Brom.
Diego Martinez (sacked December 2023): One of the more understandable sackings. Martinez was let go with the team sitting fourth in the table.
Carlos Carvalhal (sacked February 2024): A 2-0 defeat to arch rivals Panathinaikos did for Carvalhal after two months at the helm.
Rio Ave (took over in 2023)
Luis Freire (sacked November 2024): After four years in charge, he was sacked with the team 14th in the league after 10 games.
Petit (contract not renewed in summer 2025): Despite guiding the team to an 11th-place finish and the last four of the domestic cup, the club opted not to renew his contract.
