Liverpool news: Record-breaking bid made for wonderkid as race for 'unsellable' star heats up
· Mirror
Liverpool are preparing for their Premier League return against Manchester City but there's no shortage of transfer news around Anfield
Liverpool return to action following an extended international break hoping to pick up where they left off three weeks ago. The Reds won back-to-back games before the pause in play and face an immediate test of their credentials at home to Manchester City on Sunday.
Andoni Iraola's side are back up to sixth in the table following an underwhelming start to the campaign. However, that focus on this season's prospects hasn't limited the number of transfer links making their way through the rumour mill.
Speculation suggests the Reds have at least one major move lining up in time for the winter transfer window. Mirror Football breaks down all the latest stories coming out of Anfield ahead of this weekend's comeback.
Record-breaking Mora bid
TUDN has reported Liverpool have registered a record-breaking bid for Mexico wonderkid Gilberto Mora. The 17-year-old has been linked with Arsenal, Barcelona and Real Madrid since breaking onto the scene at Tijuana in 2024.
Mora became the youngest player to represent Mexico at a World Cup when he featured for El Tri this summer. And interest in his signature is escalating as he prepares to turn 18 next week.
According to TUDN, Liverpool's offer is worth 'in excess of £38million', which would make him Liga MX's biggest export of all time. The attacking midfielder, who can also play on the left wing, looks set to become one of the hottest commodities on the market next year.
Mora scored in a 1-1 friendly draw against Colombia last month but was held back from Mexico's other friendlies in the international break. TUDN's report suggested national team boss Rafael Marquez made that decision with transfer interest in mind.
It's purported that development "is an indication the deal is progressing," with a potential January move in mind. However, Liverpool have some high-ranking competition in the field they'll need to beat in order to get a deal across the line.
Reds battle Palace for Ndour
Another potential signing who has his admirers at Anfield is Fiorentina midfielder Cher Ndour. However, the Reds will need to fend off interest from Juventus and Crystal Palace if they're to land the Italy international.
La Repubblica reported Ndour was the only player at the Stadio Artemio Franchi deemed 'unsellable' in the summer. That position may be tested if the Reds get serious in their pursuit, though, with an offer in the region of £30m believed to be enough to secure his services.
The former Paris Saint-Germain and Benfica playmaker has risen to become a key staple in Florence and is still just 22. After being linked with a number of midfielders over the summer, Liverpool may have need of reinforcements in the middle of the park next year.
Veteran midfielder Wataru Endo is set to leave Merseyside when his contract expires at the end of this season. There will also be question marks regarding the future of Alexis Mac Allister, who will soon enter the final 18 months of his deal and was touted for a departure this year.
It's worth highlighting PSG retain a 50 per cent sell-on clause in Ndour's contract after he joined Fiorentina for around £3.5m last year. That should equate to a healthy profit for Les Parisiens should he move on next year, with Liverpool standing to benefit.
