Neymar Jr. has on Tuesday taken to social media, to send a public message of gratitude the way of former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi.

This of course comes ahead of an emotional evening in waiting for the 39-year-old…

The football world is set to come to a collective stop in the coming hours, upon Messi taking to the pitch in the colours of his native Argentina for the very last time.

After a glittering international career, featuring over 200 appearances, 125 goals, the World Cup, a pair of Copa América titles and more, the veteran attacker will take to the pitch for the final time for the Albiceleste in a friendly meeting with Benin.

Messages of tribute, in turn, have already begun flooding in for the player whom most consider to be the greatest to ever pull on a pair of boots.

And as alluded to above, adding his name to this list on Tuesday evening was one of Messi’s best-ever teammates. Taking to his official Instagram account, Barcelona icon Neymar unveiled a photo of he and the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, accompanied by the following heartfelt caption:

> “Anyone who loves football has enjoyed you throughout all these years…

> “Today is your final game wearing the shirt of your national team, your country, and I hope you enjoy every second of it and that all the tributes today make you happy.

> “It’s not only Argentina that thanks you, the whole world thanks you for everything you’ve done for football.

> “Thank you for making me love football even more. It was an honor to have played against you, and even more so to have made history alongside you.

> “THANK YOU, Leo Messi.”
