Luca Ranieri announced he has reached an agreement to sign a new contract with Fiorentina, that will run to June 2029 with option for another year. ‘I can’t wait to prove how eager I am to stay.’

The defender spoke to Sky Sport Italia this evening and confessed the reports of a new deal with the Stadio Artemio Franchi side were indeed accurate.

> “We are down to the details and sorting out the final things,” said Ranieri.

> “I am happy and so honoured to continue with this club. I’ve been here since I was 13 years old, I experienced so much joy and disappointment, but it’s an honour to keep going.”

He confirmed it will be a new contract to June 2029, with the club having an option to extend for one more year after that.

When asked if he can see himself wearing the Fiorentina jersey for life , Ranieri was a little hesitant.

> “Football is strange. Meanwhile, the idea of continuing for another three years at Fiorentina is marvellous. I can’t wait to prove how eager I am to stay.”

The 27-year-old was part of the Viola youth academy and worked his way up to the senior squad, albeit via some loan experiences at Foggia, Ascoli, SPAL and Salernitana.

His current contract runs to June 2028 and this is his sixth consecutive campaign in Florence.

The team had a difficult start to the season, with Fabio Grosso fired and Paolo Vanoli brought back.

> “We certainly didn’t expect to be in this situation last season, the coach gave us a big hand and took some of that pressure off me. I and my teammates are very happy to be working with him again.”
