Cristian Chivu became only the fourth coach in Serie A history to win the Scudetto before turning 50 as Inter strolled to the title last season. However, recent Italian champions have been unable to retain the crown.
In fact, it's been seven years since the last Serie A team won consecutive league titles. Juventus achieved that feat in 2018 and 2019. Despite winning three Scudetti since Juve's last triumph, Inter's two previous attempts to go back-to-back came a cropper.
Chivu's men have enjoyed a near-faultless start to their title defense this term, winning their opening four league games despite facing a two-goal deficit in two. Inter came close to fighting back from 2-0 down to take three points for the third time in a row, but they had to settle for a 2-2 draw against table-topping Roma last time out.
Despite sitting behind the Giallorossi on goal difference alone, Inter remain the odds-on favorites to claim the Scudetto this season. Priced at 1.6, they are well ahead of Roma at 6.0, while Juventus and Milan are both priced at 9.0.
While Inter's focus remains firmly on Serie A, bettors following the wider sporting calendar can also find plenty of options across MLB betting sites . Without further ado, let's check out the potential candidates to dethrone the Nerazzurri .
#1 Roma
After ending Roma's eight-year absence from the Champions League in his first season at the club, Gian Piero Gasperini has set his sights even higher this term. It's been over two decades since the Giallorossi last won the Scudetto , but they've quickly established themselves as genuine contenders this year.
With Donyell Malen firing on all cylinders and Paulo Dybala returning to his best, Roma have looked unstoppable at the start of 2026/27. In addition to winning four of their five league outings, they remain the only Serie A side to have scored at least two goals in every game so far.
However, Gasperini must make sure his side can maintain their early-season momentum over the long haul. Roma's attacking firepower has made them a formidable opponent, but their title credentials will face a much sterner test as the season progresses.
#2 Juventus
Despite a major injury crisis at the Allianz Stadium, Luciano Spalletti has overseen three wins in Juventus' first five league matches of the season. A stomach-wrenching 3-2 defeat at Sassuolo was a bitter pill to swallow, but the record-time Italian champions immediately bounced back with a convincing 2-0 win over Atalanta.
Juventus must find greater consistency if they are to end their six-year Scudetto drought. Spalletti's side cannot afford too many dropped points against the league's lesser lights, while their ability to navigate the injury crisis and deliver in the biggest fixtures could prove decisive in what looks set to be a fiercely contested title race.
Encouragingly, Juventus have fared reasonably well in the absence of standout forward Kenan Yildiz and midfield mainstay Khephren Thuram . Furthermore, with the arrivals of Nick Woltemade, Pape Matar Sarr, Jhon Lucumi, and Kerim Alajbegovic, there's no shortage of quality across the pitch.
#3 Milan
Like Juventus, Milan missed out on Champions League qualification in a heartbreaking season finale last year. While the Bianconeri decided to stick with Spalletti, the Rossoneri sacked Massimiliano Allegri in the summer and appointed Ruben Amorim as his successor, despite the latter's underwhelming spell at Manchester United.
Amorim's tenure has been off to a promising start. Milan racked up three wins in their five league matches before September's international break, including a dominant 3-0 triumph over Lecce last time out. More importantly, after Allegri's conservative style, the 19-time Italian champions have shown greater attacking intent under their new boss.
Nevertheless, Milan still have plenty to prove before they can be considered genuine Scudetto contenders. Amorim must find the right balance between attacking ambition and defensive stability, while getting the best out of marquee summer signings Goncalo Ramos and Diego Moreira.
