Liverpool Hold Talks Over Tchouameni Signing, He's Levels Above Camara

Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward looks set to sign new midfielder in 2027
Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea were two of the busiest top six Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window, but Liverpool could be taking their crown in 2027.
Liverpool added four new senior players to their squad in the summer, but that included Jeremy Jacquet officially linking up with the squad having been signed in January, while Ronald Araujo only joined on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona.
The Reds are still yet to sign a replacement for Mohamed Salah on the right wing, while there are big question marks over the full-back positions, with neither Jeremie Frimpong nor Milos Kerkez impressing fans on a consistent basis.
As things stand, Araujo is playing there even though his preferred position is at centre-back, and it remains to be seen whether he will be a permanent addition for the full-back role when his loan comes to an end.
Elsewhere, new sporting director Julian Ward and manager Andoni Iraola have some big decisions to make over the futures of Alisson and Virgil van Dijk, whose contracts expire at the end of the season.
The former is 34 years of age and Liverpool's captain is 35, so they will need to show Iraola in the coming weeks and months that they still have something to offer the team beyond the current campaign.
If the Reds decide to let both go, they will potentially have to look at bringing in two new signings who would have huge boots to fill, given how much Alisson and Van Dijk have given to the club in the last eight years.
Julian Ward's 2027 Liverpool Transfer List:
The other position where a new signing looks to be almost guaranteed is in central midfield.
Curtis Jones left for Inter Milan in the summer and wasn't replaced, while Alexis Mac Allister has hinted at a 2027 exit after suggesting that the club have told him they are unable to offer him a new contract.
Meanwhile, Ryan Gravenberch's starts have been limited under Iraola with Dominik Szoboszlai, Mac Allister and even Trey Nyoni preferred.
If Liverpool are looking for an upgrade on the Dutchman, there aren't many better options than Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni.
Liverpool have Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara high on their shortlist for 2027 following his failed deadline day move to Chelsea, according to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs , with the Reds informing him of their interest on September 1.
Meanwhile, the Merseysiders are also said to hold an interest in Bournemouth's Alex Scott , who could leave the Cherries next summer having rejected two rounds of contract talks, according to the BBC.
Iraola and Scott have a strong relationship from their time together on the south coast, and he shone on his full England debut as the Three Lions thrashed Croatia 7-0 in Rijeka.
However, Liverpool have also held talks with the camp of Tchouameni, according to TEAMtalk, and the France international is levels above both Camara and Scott.
Aurelien Tchouameni (LaLiga 2025-26)
- Appearances: 33 - Successful passes: 1,751 - Pass accuracy: 91.5% - Accurate long balls: 66 - Chances created: 25 - Duels won: 170 - Aerial duels won: 72 - Defensive contributions: 183 - Tackles: 68 - Interceptions: 47 - Recoveries: 144
Camara and Scott are impressive up-and-coming midfielders, but Tchouameni has been a key player for France and Real Madrid for many seasons now.
He has been playing at the elite level and is one appearance away from 200 for Los Blancos, which highlights his importance to the La Liga giants.
The 26-year-old, who should now be entering the prime years of his career, has also reached 50 caps for his country, and is seen as a vital piece of the team.
He has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in recent years, but he has also shown that he can be a threat in attack too, with 15 goal contributions in his 199 Real appearances.
His former teammate Chema Andres described him as 'the best defensive midfielder in the world', and it would be difficult to find many players who are better.
One Liverpool star is ready to leave the club after a 'nightmare' time under Andoni Iraola so far.
