The latest Liverpool news features Mo Salah and a star who is reportedly ready to quit Anfield
There's just one more week to go until Premier League action returns with Liverpool in action against Manchester City at Anfield next Sunday. The game against Enzo Maresca's pace setters could act as a major barometer for Andoni Iraola when it comes to judging the level his side are currently at.
Liverpool are unbeaten so far in all competitions, but only have two wins in the Premier League: against Ipswich Town and Bournemouth. The Basque coach is still getting to grips with his squad, with some fringe players yet to feature.
One of whom is Federico Chiesa and the latest news sees the Italian linked with a move away in January. Rio Ngumoha is one player who has been given game time by Iraola, and the teenager opened up about a private chat he had with Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah. Mirror Football takes a closer look.
Chiesa 'set for exit'
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Serie A sides Inter Milan, Lazio and Atalanta are circling a swoop for Chiesa. The publication states the 28-year-old is ready to depart Anfield in January.
The Italian international made just two Premier League starts across two seasons under former boss Arne Slot after signing in the summer of 2024 from Juventus. Despite being linked with a move away this summer, he claimed he wanted to stay at the Reds and fight for a spot in the first XI under Iraola.
> "Right now, at the moment, I am happy here at Liverpool," Chiesa said. "I love the club, I love the fans, I love everything. I am doing the best I can to have a chance here. And then we will see. At the minute, the only thing I am thinking about is Liverpool.
> "I don’t know, it is difficult to say [if this is a fresh start]. It is always a fresh start at the beginning of the year. It is football. This year, let us say it is a new chapter. There is a new manager and I have to focus on that."
However, the Italian winger is yet to feature for the Reds this season, having been ruled out with an injury. He was also left out of the club's official 25-man squad for their Champions League campaign, suggesting his future at Anfield is now in a precarious position.
Ngumoha's Mo Salah chats
Ngumoha has opened up about the advice he received from Mo Salah before the winger left the Reds this summer. Ngumoha became the youngest scorer in the club's history when he bagged a late winner in a 3-2 victory over Newcastle United in August 2025, aged just 16 years and 361 days.
The 18-year-old has since kicked on by earning his first senior England cap, while he has also made five appearances for the Reds so far this season. No doubt a deadly presence on the flank, Ngumoha has found goals and assists hard to come by, however, with two goals and one assist in 35 senior appearances for the club to date.
The youngster explained how Salah tasked him with improving that area of his game. "The player who I probably learned the most from is Mohamed Salah, when he was at Liverpool," Ngumoha said.
> "He taught me a lot, especially towards the back end when he knew he was leaving. He helped me a lot. Like he always says about looking at his numbers and he was always telling me, 'Rio, you know you're a good player but to reach the top, you have to add the goals and assists.'
> "And it will come naturally but he was just going through little things like that [with me]. When he first started [talking to me], it was like, 'Wow! I've been watching you since I was young and you're telling me how to [improve]. Like, you're helping me and you're guiding me.'
> "But then over time, I saw him as a very good team-mate and he was helping me a lot, so I can't thank him much more."
