Paul Scholes disagrees with Wayne Rooney in Man Utd debate - 'Greedy b******'

Manchester City could be stripped of their titles after being found guilty of breaking financial rules, and bitter rivals Manchester United would be in line to benefit

Paul Scholes has gone against Wayne Rooney and made it clear that he 'wants his medal' from the 2011-12 season when Manchester City won the Premier League title. City face being stripped of the nine trophies which they won between 2009 and 2018, the nine-year period in which the club have been found guilty of breaching the Premier League's financial rules.

An independent commission found that City were guilty of 114 of the 115 charges levelled at them in February 2023. Etihad chiefs have appealed the decision and continue to strong deny all of the charges, leaving fans to debate their potential punishment.

One way City could be punished is by having their titles taken away and subsequently given to the respective runners-up. In 2012, Manchester United finished second to City in a dramatic title race that went down to the final day.

Rooney, however, went on record to say that he wouldn't feel 'comfortable' being known as a title winner from that season and wouldn't accept a medal. But Scholes is of a different opinion.

The United legend posted on Instagram: "Keep hearing ex-teammates saying they want trophies taking (sic) off them but they don't want their medals... f that I'm a greedy b I want my medal."

Two of Scholes' former team-mates, Rio Ferdinand and David de Gea, have also signalled that they'd want to be given medals. Rooney, on the other hand, doesn't feel that his side earned them.

> "I have heard Rio has come out saying about getting another Premier League medal... I wouldn't really feel comfortable accepting another Premier League medal, if I'm being honest," the United's all-time top goalscorer on the Stick To United podcast.

> "I don't think we deserve it, we didn't do enough that season to win the league. I think we were six or seven points clear with four or five games to go and we threw it away.

> "I've seen everything that has come out over the past few days and listening to people and I was putting myself in a Man City player's shoes... they're players, they're doing everything they can to try and win the Premier League title and in their mind they have done it, if those players have no understanding of what is going on above them, if that happened to me... I would be absolutely devastated.

> "It might happen, they might take them [medals] away, but I wouldn't want it [a medal] because I don't think as a team we deserved it that year because obviously we didn't finish first.

> "So when I see team-mates saying, 'I want a medal', I'm happy with the five I've won. I wouldn't want this one. Should they get it stripped for what the owners have done? Yeah maybe, but I wouldn't feel comfortable accepting it."
