Tottenham Must Sign Jean-Philippe Mateta as Crystal Palace Exit Guaranteed
· GiveMeSport
Tottenham are still in need of a new striker, and they have been handed the perfect chance to solve their issues.
Tottenham Hotspur had one of the busiest transfer windows in recent memory this summer, bringing in ten new faces for Roberto De Zerbi.
Spurs brought in Martin Dubravka to strengthen their goalkeeper position; Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke, and Tosin Adarabioyo strengthened the defence; Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes bolstered the midfield in big-money deals, while Omar Marmoush, Savio, and Mykhailo Mudryk all arrived to make the attack better.
But so far this season, the north London club have been pretty poor and sit rock bottom of the Premier League table after five games, with zero wins and just two goals scored.
The forward positions were understood to be a major priority for De Zerbi in the summer, with Richarlison not in his plans , Randal Kolo Muani moving to Juventus, Will Lankshear sold, and Dominic Solanke struggling badly for form over the last 12 months.
Marmoush's arrival was expected to see him line up as the number nine, but he has struggled massively to make an impact, and his best position is playing off a more traditional nine, rather than leading the line by himself.
With plenty of question marks over how Spurs are going to improve in attack to start scoring goals and climbing the table, a new striker is expected to be targeted once again when the transfer window reopens, and the club have now been handed the perfect option to do just that.
According to a report by Football Insider , Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta will definitely be leaving Selhurst Park in 2027.
The France international's contract with the south London side is set to expire next summer, but it's believed that he could look to move on in January after a dispute with the club over his deal, while he was close to an exit last January before he failed a medical.
Spurs have held a historic interest in the striker , and this would be the perfect opportunity for them to rekindle that and make their squad much stronger.
Mateta has been dealing with an injury he picked up in pre-season and is yet to feature this season. But his form in recent years in the Premier League saw him described by many as one of the best strikers in the division, while former boss Oliver Glasner described him as an 'amazing finisher'.
> "He's an amazing finisher, with left foot and right and also with the head. We don't want to have him out on the left or right, because there he never scores, so we want him in the six-yard box, because there he scores goals."
His physical profile makes him the perfect foil for someone like Marmoush, while the likes of Savio, James Maddison, Mohammed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski, and Xavi Simons would all thrive providing service and working off his talents.
A deal won't be super expensive, considering he'll be in the final months of his contract, while Mateta would be a big upgrade on the likes of Richarlison and Solanke if they can get him to his best level.
It's the ideal opportunity for Spurs to improve the squad further in a cost-effective deal, and it's a move that they need to complete if they want to save their season.
Spurs could continue to spend money in the next transfer windows
