Man City submitted an appeal after being found guilty of all but one of the 115 charges that had been brought against the club by the Premier League
His Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC) are reported to have been approached by the Treasury Committee amid the ongoing saga involving Manchester City. News emerged this week that City had been found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges that had been brought against them by the Premier League for financial breaches.
City maintain their innocence and have already submitted an appeal following the report submitted by the independent commission.
A report in Sky Sports has claimed that HMRC could launch an investigation into whether or not City have paid the correct amount of tax following the guilty verdict that has been announced.
The allegations relate to a nine-year period between 2009 and 2018, during which time City won three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and three League Cups.
It has been reported that MP Dame Meg Hillier has written a letter to JP Marks, the secretary of the HMRC, for whether they have received a redacted version of the report that was submitted by the Premier League.
In the letter, it has been reported that the MP has written in the letter: "I would be interested in any common issues around taxation (including the taxation of remuneration) that you have found in their practices and how HMRC is tackling them."
The report claims that Thursday, October 15 is the deadline for a reply.
City released a statement on Friday confirming that they had submitted an appeal as they deny the allegations that have been lodged against the club.
> “Manchester City Football Club can confirm that at 7pm on Thursday 1st October 2026 the Club lodged its comprehensive Appeal against the opinion of the Premier League Commission, in relation to the Premier League disciplinary matter,” the statement read.
> “The Club’s firm position is that, on multiple grounds, the opinion contains clear material errors, of law, principle and fact and is unsafe.
> “The Club is innocent of the accusations made by the Premier League and a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence exists in support of all of its positions, relating to this case.
> “We will continue to respect due process and are necessarily restricted in what we can say further until all proceedings are complete.”
