Dalot Finished: Man Utd Chiefs Ready to Sign Wesley From AS Roma

Manchester United are reportedly looking at signing a new right-back in 2027
Hopes were high that Man United could build on their impressive first half of 2026 in the new season, after INEOS completed a midfield rebuild following the departure of Casemiro, but they have reverted to playing as poorly as they did under previous managers at times this season.
Carrick's men have won only two of their seven fixtures in all competitions this term, both at home against opposition they were expected to beat.
Prior to the extended international break, they were fortunate to leave Craven Cottage with a point after a performance that Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville was highly critical of.
United have now conceded eight goals in five Premier League matches this term, even though Manchester City are the only top 10 side from last season they have faced.
It is a worrying record and their first-choice back four this season has been made up of three players who were signed in 2019 or earlier, and players that some fans believe should have left in previous years.
When Man United's First-Choice Defence Signed
- Luke Shaw: 2014 - Lisandro Martinez: 2022 - Harry Maguire: 2019 - Diogo Dalot: 2018
It is becoming clearer and clearer that this is a backline that needs freshening up, even if Matthijs de Ligt is still returning to injury.
As things stand, the likes of Leny Yoro, Ayden Heaven and Noussair Mazraoui aren't considered as strong enough competition for those players listed above, given they are struggling to get into the starting XI.
Of course, Red Devils chiefs did attempt to sign some stronger competition for Luke Shaw in the summer after deciding Patrick Dorgu is suited to a more attacking role, but they failed to land either Newcastle United's Lewis Hall or Barcelona's Alejandro Balde.
A report last week from journalist Shaun Connolly claimed that United are big admirers of AS Roma star Wesley, who they consider to be the classic wing-back.
After eight years at Old Trafford, Dalot is showing this season why he has no long-term future at United.
The 27-year-old's defending and attacking contributions simply haven't been up to scratch so far this term, and the Red Devils really need to consider upgrading him as soon as possible.
Dalot in the Premier League (2026-27)
- Appearances: 5 - Starts: 4 - Minutes played: 348 - Shots: 8 - Shots on target: 1 - Assists: 0 - Accurate long balls: 3 - Successful crosses: 2 - Duels won: 47% - Defensive contributions: 16 - Clean sheets: 0
Wesley would be an interesting option for the club, given he has been shining in a wing-back role under Gian Piero Gasperini at the Stadio Olimpico.
He has been described by Connolly as a 'flamboyant attacking full-back' who has age and natural ability on his side, of course, being Brazilian.
The 23-year-old ranked in the 85th percentile or above in terms of some key attacking metrics, including expected assists (xA), completed crosses and progressive carries, and his never-ending running and athleticism are impressive to watch.
The Brazilian has been even better this term, with Gasperini's men currently top of Serie A, ahead of champions Inter Milan on goal difference.
United are said to rate the Roma man very highly and believe he has the skills and engine to be a big success in the Premier League.
Prising him away from the current Serie A leaders will be no easy task however, given Gasperini clearly rates him highly and the fact the South American only signed a five-year deal when he joined the club last summer.
