Liverpool's Next Fabinho: FSG In Contact to Sign Aurelien Tchouameni
· GiveMeSport
They have been in constant contact with the player's camp
Liverpool will sign a new central midfielder in 2027, with it being described as one of Julian Ward's main priorities after he was confirmed as the club's new sporting director.
Liverpool added new defenders and attackers to Andoni Iraola's squad during the summer transfer window, but the midfield was left alone even though Curtis Jones departed for Inter Milan.
Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai both signed new long-term contracts this year, but midfield teammate Alexis Mac Allister looks like he could be on his way out of Anfield in 2027 after admitting he was 'sad' that the club told him they were unable to offer him a new deal.
The Reds have two promising youngsters coming through in Trey Nyoni and James McConnell, but they are set to bring in a new player for the position next year, according to the Athletic .
They have identified Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara as one of the top targets, with GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs revealing previously that Liverpool had informed the player he would be high on their list in 2027 if he failed to complete a deadline day move to Chelsea.
That is exactly what happened despite the Blues agreeing a fee with the Ligue 1 outfit for the Senegal international, as Monaco pulled out of the deal at the 11th hour.
While the new addition could be Mac Allister's replacement, there may also be some doubts over the future of Gravenberch, even though he only signed his new contract until 2032 in March.
Ryan Gravenberch is Liverpool's 13th highest-rated player this season, according to Fotmob.
The Netherlands international doesn't look to be the same player who was so influential in their Premier League title win, and he has only started two of the club's seven matches under Iraola, with other players preferred ahead of him.
The 24-year-old will need to show more if he wants to start consistently, but the Merseysiders may already have their eye on a player who could be his direct replacement.
According to TEAMtalk , they are in constant contact with the camp of Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, even though the France international only signed a new five-year deal in July.
Aurelien Tchouameni
The interest may seem strange given he has only just committed his future to Real and Jose Mourinho wanted him to stay. However, much could depend on the Frenchman's ability to work his way into the Portuguese manager's starting XI as the season proceeds.
The 26-year-old missed the LaLiga giants' first four matches of the season through injury, starting two of the four matches he has since been available for.
While Tchouameni is happy at Real for now, the suggestion by TEAMtalk is that he won't put up with merely being a squad player moving forward, so his desire to remain at the Bernabeu will be severely tested if he finds himself on the bench consistently.
Liverpool are ready to pounce if the player's stance changes, and they remain in communication with those close to the France international, although they are not actively pushing for the transfer.
What is clear is that Tchouameni is one of the best players in his position in the whole of Europe, with former Real teammate Chema Andres describing him as the 'best DM in the world' previously.
While Tchouameni is a midfield destroyer who loves winning the ball, he has also been moulded into an all-round midfielder who can make an impact in the final third, too.
Monaco's official website have described him as 'one of the best midfielders of his generation' , and it isn't difficult to see why when you see how important he has been for France and Real Madrid in recent seasons.
The 26-year-old has 50 caps for his country, while his next Real appearance after the international break will be his 200th in a Los Blancos shirt.
Tchouameni for Real Madrid (LaLiga 2025-26)
- Appearances: 33 - Starts: 31 - Shots: 45 - Goals: 1 - Assists: 0 - Expected assists (xA): 2.95 - Successful passes: 1,751 - Pass accuracy: 91.5% - Accurate long balls: 66 - Chances created: 25 - Duels won: 170 - Aerial duels won: 72 - Defensive contributions: 183 - Tackles: 68 - Interceptions: 47 - Recoveries: 144
Some Liverpool fans may argue that they haven't effectively replaced Brazilian brick wall Fabinho following his departure in 2023, but they would do exactly that with the addition of Tchouameni.
Getting him out of the Bernabeu will be their most difficult task though.
