Calvert-Lewin awarded Leeds' second goal in win over Newcastle

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been awarded Leeds' second goal in Monday's 4-1 win over Newcastle.

The Goal Accreditation Appeals Panel, formerly known as the Dubious Goals Committee, has taken the goal away from Jayden Bogle and given it to Calvert-Lewin.

The first-half goal was initially awarded to the striker before it was later awarded to Bogle after he was adjudged to have the final touch from Calvert-Lewin's header.

But Leeds submitted an appeal against the decision, and the panel have subsequently given the goal back to Calvert-Lewin, which also means the assist goes to James Justin, who crossed the ball for his header.

A Premier League statement said:

> "The goal was initially awarded to the Leeds striker, but the Premier League’s Goal Accreditation Panel determined that the ball headed by Calvert-Lewin then made contact with his team-mate Jayden Bogle. > > "As this was the last touch on the ball by an attacking player on its way into the net, the panel said the goal should be accredited to Bogle. > > "Leeds made an appeal and the panel reviewed the footage and accredited Calvert-Lewin with the goal, increasing his tally for this season to three, while also removing the assist that was awarded to him for the goal."

Calvert-Lewin will now officially have two goals to his name from Leeds' win over Newcastle after scoring their third in first-half stoppage time.

The 29-year-old has now scored four goals across all competitions this season, including three in the Premier League.

What happens in FPL?

The Premier League also clarified that Fantasy Premier League managers who own Calvert-Lewin will not be given the extra points from the newly awarded goal.

The Premier League website confirmed:

> "Sadly for the 2.3million Fantasy Premier League managers who had Calvert-Lewin in their teams, the accreditation of the goal came too late to be reflected in his points as it was the final match of Gameweek 4, and the game has now closed. > > "Calvert-Lewin would have been awarded an extra two points in FPL by converting his assist into a goal and earning him an additional bonus point, increasing his points haul for the match from 10 points to 12."

Leeds appeal decision to award their second goal to Bogle in Newcastle win

Latest from Sky Sports News' Lyall Thomas:

Leeds have submitted an appeal to have Dominic Calvert-Lewin awarded their second goal in their 4-1 win over Newcastle.

The first-half goal was initially awarded to Calvert-Lewin before it was later awarded to Jayden Bogle after he was adjudged to have the final touch from Calvert-Lewin's header.

The Whites are hoping the Premier League's Goal Accreditation Panel, formerly known as the Dubious Goals Committee, will meet and take the credit away from Bogle and award the goal to Calvert-Lewin.

The striker scored Leeds' third in first-half stoppage time, but he will now be hoping to have a second goal to his name from the win at Elland Road.

The Premier League did not comment.

Farke furious at not keeping clean sheet in Newcastle thrashing

Daniel Farke admitted he wasn't happy to see his side concede late on in an otherwise near-perfect performance against Newcastle.

Leeds ran riot in a one-sided affair, with the owner dampener being a late consolation to see the game finish 4-1.

It means that Farke's men, while unbeaten, have conceded in each of their last four games having managed back-to-back shut outs against Nottingham Forest prior.

> "I wasn’t happy that we allowed them to score one goal," Farke told Sky Sports. > > "But, it doesn’t take anything away from the fact that my boys were brilliant and we fully deserved to win the game. There’s no such thing as a perfect performance though, and this is one of the rare points I have to criticise. > > "We have energy, quality, good structure in and out of possession. We have a good fitness level, also. It’s not just the will, otherwise whoever had the strong will would always win the game. We have to have the right triggers and everyone needs to be spot on. It’s lots of work on the training ground to be that compact and intense."

Farke was also full of praise for Dominic Calvert-Lewin after his player of the match display. The striker notched a goal and was unfortunate to a see a second turn into an assist for Jayden Bogle, though it did nothing to stop the plaudits.

> "He’s in outstanding shape and he plays with lots of confidence. I expect him to lead the group and he’s taken the responsibility," Farke added." > > "His work rate is top. It’s not just scoring the goals. The way he plays for us is outstanding. He’s definitely one of the stand out strikers in the league."

Can Leeds challenge for Europe? Have your say!

Rob Edwards believes that Leeds can make a push for European football this season after their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign continued with a 4-1 thrashing of Newcastle.

The result not only sees Daniel Farke's side move up to third in the table, but since switching to a back three in December 2025, Leeds are the fifth-best performers in the division.

> "There's no reason at all [why they can't compete for Europe]," Edwards said on Monday Night Football. > > "If they keep people fit and keep performance levels consistent like he's saying, I don't see any reason why they can't. > > "They're definitely in that bracket of teams that'll be in the mix. I keep looking at Elland Road because that brings a few more points, I think. > > "The fans are incredible and with the intensity the lads are playing at, it's a real fortress."

Pressing monsters Leeds gaining control off the ball

Rob Edwards speaking on Monday Night Football:

> “They’re fast. They’re a direct, in your face team. The physicality is massive [in the Premier League]. You feel it so much more at this level. > > “Dominic Calvert-Lewin can do so many good things. What he does for this team…he starts off the press, he holds up and brings people into play. I sometimes think what comes first? Does it start with the press or will it start from the build-up. Leeds will start with the pressing. > > “How they get chances and get control in games comes from what they do without the ball. That allows them to gain control and keep the ball as far away from goal.”

Farke's plan to deliver Leeds to 'fun' new heights

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, Daniel Farke explains his desire to take Leeds to new heights and reestablish his side as a Premier League staple.

Leeds vs Newcastle: Daniel Farke sets out blueprint for success after unbeaten Premier League start

Farke expects Longstaff to play key role for Leeds

Daniel Farke expects midfielder Sean Longstaff to play a key role in Leeds’ bid to establish themselves in the Premier League.

Longstaff returned to the starting line-up in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup defeat at Chelsea and hopes to make his first appearance back at hometown club Newcastle on Monday.

A calf injury robbed the 28-year-old of a first return to St James’ Park last season when stoppage-time goals from Bruno Guimaraes and Harvey Barnes snatched a thrilling 4-3 win for the Magpies.

> “Sean is a top guy, top character, one of our most experienced players on this level, has (played) many Premier League games,” Farke said. > > “Last season he had to adapt to a new club. Then he had a really good period when he was more or less irreplaceable and influenced our game a lot. > > “But there’s lots of competition. We have Ethan Ampadu, everyone is asking right now for Ao Tanaka to play every game, everyone is asking for Anton Stach. Ilia Gruev is back (from a knee injury) and he’s not even in the squad at the moment.”

Longstaff has made only 10 Premier League starts since a £12m switch from Newcastle to Leeds in 2025 ended an 18-year spell at his boyhood club, but a strong pre-season has pushed him back in contention.

> Farke added: “Sean has all the skills and is a top character, has top experience, but there’s lots of competition and I don’t just play the guys I like most or are the most experienced or are the nicest characters. But Sean has all chances also to shine.”

Farke backs keeper Zetterer after 'nightmare' debut

Daniel Farke admitted goalkeeper Michael Zetterer had “a nightmare debut” in the midweek 6-3 Carabao Cup defeat at Chelsea, but has no doubts over the German’s ability.

Zetterer, 31, joined Leeds for a reported £4.27million from Eintracht Frankfurt last month and made his first appearance in place of fellow summer signing James Trafford at Stamford Bridge.

Leeds led 2-0 early in the second half, but then conceded three goals in seven minutes as Chelsea’s half-time substitutes – Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers and Pedro Neto – helped turn the tie on its head.

> “Michael has played many games on Bundesliga level. He has played Champions League and it’s a nightmare debut, let’s be honest,” Farke said. > > “But in this moment you feel a bit also for him. Who wants to have such a debut, so difficult. Of course, he knows that in one or two scenes he could have tried perhaps even a bit more, like for the second goal, at least try to jump and dive.”

Farke added:

> “Sometimes in life you have the worst possible start that you can have and then there is already a bit of weight and pressure on your shoulders. > > “But it’s also like (Premier League footballers) are all leading a privileged life. They have a proper salary, and you know they are football players on a permanent level, and they also don’t need too much sympathy. > > “Everyone, all the players, all the staff members, coaching staff, Ed (Wootten) as a goalkeeper coach have all seen during training what a really good goalkeeper Michael is.”

Jones Knows: Back Ampadu to be carded

Sky Sports' betting expert Lewis Jones:

Newcastle's draw with Bournemouth was a little reminder that this rebuild under Matthias Jaissle could be quite volatile at times. The Toon have scored six goals from an expected goals return of just three and have faced the most shots of any team this season, hinting at an overperformance.

Leeds are a reliable team to bet on. You know exactly what you're going to get. Usually that means Daniel Farke's team avoiding defeat which is what they've done in 11 of their last 12 Premier League games. They defend with great organisation and attack with authority. They are 11/8 with Sky Bet to win.

Premier League predictions & Jones Knows' best bets: Hull's run can't continue at Chelsea, can it? Oh, it can

I do like that home win but I also like the prospects of Matias Fernandez-Pardo drawing cards for Newcastle. He could be in line for his first start having come off the bench in the last two games in all competitions. The £51m signing was Lille's main man in Ligue 1 last season and drew 15 cards in just over 3,000 minutes of action - an impressive strike-rate.

This leaves Ethan Ampadu vulnerable to card at 3/1 with Sky Bet based on his record of being booked 10 times last season.

Farke: Okafor loved at Leeds

Daniel Farke has given Noah Okafor his full backing following the Switzerland forward’s decision to make himself unavailable for his country.

Okafor, 26, announced earlier on Friday he does not want to represent Switzerland until further notice while head coach Murat Yakin remains in charge of the team.

A long-running dispute between the pair appeared to have been settled when Okafor was called into Switzerland’s World Cup squad as a late replacement, but he made just one appearance as substitute as they reached the quarter-finals and was unhappy at how he was treated by Yakin during the tournament.
