Solomon's comments in his post-match interview have caused a major stir.
Manor Solomon has caused a stir with his comments after Israel's defeat to the Republic of Ireland on Sunday evening.
Ireland picked up an easy victory over Israel in their Nations League encounter at the Nagyerdei Stadion in Hungary. The Boys in Green raced into a three-goal lead inside the opening 25 minutes, with Troy Parrott, Adam Idah and Jack Molyan all on the scoresheet.
Israel ended the match with more shots on goal and the lion's share of possession, but they could not find a way past Caoimhin Kelleher and succumbed to a 3-0 defeat.
Ireland's players refused to shake the hands of their opponents before the match, while they also bowed their heads as Israel’s anthem was played.
Irish captain Dara O’Shea shook hands with the referee and his assistants when he went to the centre circle for the pre-match coin toss, but he had no intention of shaking the hand of Israel captain Solomon.
After his side's defeat, Solomon admitted that Israel don't like Ireland and said that he can't wait for the next match against them.
He said, per RTE:
> "I don’t want to talk about [the Irish players]. If I say what I think of them, I’d likely be suspended for a few matches… Obviously they hate us. We don’t like them. I’m waiting for the next game against them. It’ll be a completely different game entirely.”
Solomon said that Israel are '10 times better than Ireland' when asked to give his thoughts about his opponents' actions before the match. He added:
> “They don’t interest me. We have a country ten times better than theirs, stronger, an amazing country with amazing people. We are proud to wear the team shirt and to be Israelis. We are proud of our state and of our soldiers. [The Irish] can play all their tricks. We are Israelis and love the country. And that will always be the case.”
Solomon's comments have not gone down well with football fans on Reddit. One said: 'He is vile. Utter scum,' while another commented: 'The fact this fella represents my team is so disgusting to me. What a prat.'
A third said: 'Crazy they don't seem to realise how weird they are talking like this,' while a fourth wrote: 'What a horrible bunch they are.'
Tensions are reported to have boiled over after the match, with journalists detailing an alleged exchange they witnessed between Everton's Jake O’Brien and Solomon.
O'Brien is said to have said:
> "Shame on you for what you’re doing in Gaza. You deserve to lose.”
Solomon is reported to have replied:
> “Come out, be a man. Don’t talk behind a wall. It’s a shame the game wasn’t in Israel, you would understand what the best country in the world is.”
Ireland and Israel will go head-to-head once again on Sunday, October 4 in Serbia. The match, is is bound to be a fiesty encounter, will be played behind closed doors.
