Man Utd Eyeing Tottenham Star Micky Van de Ven

· GiveMeSport

Manchester United are eyeing a move to sign Tottenham's Micky van de Ven to enhance their defence and improve on Lisandro Martinez.

Signing a new defender could be one of United's priorities over the next 12 months. Matthijs De Ligt has been suffering from regular injury problems, while Michael Carrick's remaining crop haven't set the world alight.

In the most recent summer transfer window, United strengthened significantly in the middle of the park, but they failed to address a number of key areas in the squad.

Carrick helped United qualify for the Champions League last season, but they have failed to build a squad that's going to cope with playing the extra games.

United failed to strengthen in their attack or defense, with their only non-midfield signing being a backup goalkeeper.

Signing a new centre-back has to be one of their priorities for the long term, even just to relieve the pressure on the young duo Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro.

Manchester United are now reportedly interested in signing Tottenham centre-back van de Ven in 2027 as they look to strengthen their defence.

The report claims that van de Ven's ability to play on the left-hand side of defence appeals to United, and they are closely monitoring him at the moment.

It's suggested that Tottenham could demand in the region of £90 million to allow Van de Ven to depart. It remains to be seen whether United would be willing to pay that.

It's unclear whether Van de Ven would be interested in a move to United, as he does appear to be happy at Spurs after signing a new long-term contract.

Manchester United have struggled this season under Michael Carrick.

Signing Van de Ven in 2027 would be a hugely positive signing for the Red Devils. The Dutch international would be a huge upgrade on current left-sided centre-back Martinez, offering more in terms of ability on the ball, pace, and defensive nous.

Getting him out of Tottenham certainly won't be easy, but he could be perfect for the left-sided centre-back position.

Martinez has struggled to produce consistent performances over the last few years, partly due to the fact that he has struggled with injuries.

Van de Ven would be a huge upgrade for United, and they should be looking to do everything they can to get him to the club.

Van de Ven is perhaps not worth the £90 million that Tottenham could demand for him, but if they can somehow manage to negotiate that fee down, it would be a smart signing for the Manchester club.
