Man City Guilty Verdict: Jose Mourinho’s Opinion of Pep Guardiola Re-Emerges

· GiveMeSport

Jose Mourinho made his feelings about Pep Guardiola's success at Manchester City very clear.

Following the breaking reports that emerged on Friday afternoon that M anchester City had been found guilty on 114 charges of breaching the Premier League's financial fair play rules , the footballing world has reacted.

Any future charges for Manchester City will take some time, as the club do have a right to appeal any possible punishments they have imposed on them.

Information about the squad learning of the shocking news has emerged.

The club released a statement following the reports, declining to confirm whether they have been notified by the Premier League and the independent commission of any outcomes.

Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak also released a statement on Saturday afternoon , in which he said he has full belief in the club's innocence and he currently can't comment on any proceedings due to strict confidentiality.

As rival clubs plan their next steps with potential lawsuits and compensation claims, old comments are resurfacing from some of the biggest figures in football.

Jose Mourinho managed Manchester United from 2016 to 2018, towards the end of the nine-year period these charges cover . During his time, United won a Europa League title, but also finished runners-up to Manchester City in the league.

There is a potential that they could be awarded the title from that season, should City be stripped of their achievements during that time period.

An old quote has resurfaced from Mourinho, which he said in 2024. He said:

> "Pep Guardiola said something to me yesterday... He won six trophies and I won three, but I won fairly and cleanly. > > "I don't want to win by dealing with 150 lawsuits. If I lost, I want to congratulate my opponent."

Whilst the comments were first made a year after the first charges were brought to Manchester City, they have now resurfaced due to the announcement regarding City's guilty verdict.

Mourinho's old club, Manchester United, have been one of the clubs planning their next steps should Manchester City be given a punishment.

With the Red Devils finishing runners-up to City on multiple occasions during the time period the charges relate to, as well as missing out on Champions League qualification to City on goal difference, they're one of the clubs who feel as if they should receive some heavy compensation should City's appeal be unsuccessful and a punishment be inflicted upon them.

Multiple Clubs are now planning legal action following the guilty verdict handed to City today...

They aren't the only club, however, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham all serving City notices in 2024, reserving their right to demand compensation from City should a guilty verdict be given.

Any compensation will be some time away, with it taking two years for a guilty verdict to come; an appeal process may prolong the process by another lengthy portion of time.
