Erling Haaland signed a nine-and-a-half-year contract with Manchester City, but his dad believes he could be on the move soon
Alf-Inge Haaland once claimed his son won't be at Manchester City forever - and could even leave at the end of this season. The ex-Premier League star named several clubs his son could join in the future, including Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
Haaland Sr's words have resurfaced after City were found guilty on 114 of the 115 charges they faced for financial rule breaches. The club could face points deductions, be stripped of trophies and even be relegated to the lower leagues.
Haaland was slated to speak ahead of Norway's clash with Portugal, but was removed from media duties. TV2 reported that the striker has been replaced by Benfica duo Andreas Schjelderup and Fredrik Aursnes.
Long before the news broke about City's charges, Haaland Sr addressed his son's potential career and admitted he expects him to compete in all the top leagues around the world. In 2022, the ex-Leeds man appeared on the documentary, Haaland: The Big Decision, and was frank about what he believes will happen.
The 53-year-old said: "I think Erling wants to prove his abilities in all leagues. Then he can stay there [Manchester City] for three or four years at the most. He could be, for example, two-and-a-half years in Germany, two-and-a-half years in England and then in Spain, Italy, France, right?"
With the time frame in mind, Haaland Sr believes his son could depart at the end of the current season. The ex-striker even had some clubs in mind, naming six that he thought the Norway international could consider.
He added: "On our list, I think City is the best team. [Bayern] Munich is number two. We have Real Madrid as number three, Paris Saint-Germain as number four.
> "We also have some English teams other than City who are quite good. Liverpool and Chelsea. Also, there is Barcelona. They are sort of in the same row."
In 2025, Haaland signed a contract extension that ties him to City until 2034. However, Real and Barcelona have both previously eyed the striker and may see the charges as a new incentive to secure his services.
The 26-year-old is yet to address City's verdict, but previously claimed he wants to remain at the club for a long time. Discussing his bumper new contract last year, Haaland said: "It has been amazing, and it's been like a dream these past two and a half years, but I'm really looking forward to what's next and for the future.
> "I'm going to stay for a long time so now I can fully focus on getting better because [I know] I'm going to stay for such a long time. So, [the] full focus [is] on performing and getting better and to give all the fans what they want."
