Manchester United icon David de Gea has reacted to the verdict of Manchester City's 115 charges
Manchester United continue to be busy during the international break. Michael Carrick’s side do not return to action until October 10 but off-field matters have captured attention.
The footballing world has been rocked by Manchester City being found guilty of all but one of 115 charges relating to alleged financial breaches between 2009 and 2018. City have always denied the allegations and will be able to appeal the verdict.
In a statement, City said: “The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality. As such Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the Club’s statement of February 2023.”
However, the update could have wider knock-on effects beyond City. While any sanctions remain unknown, United icon David de Gea has raised the question of what the outcome could mean for his legacy at Old Trafford if City were to be stripped of their honours.
Meanwhile, United have also swooped to sign a teenage prospect from their local rivals. Here. Mirror Football takes a closer look at the biggest stories surrounding United.
David de Gea responds to 115 charges verdict
Former United goalkeeper De Gea has responded to City being found guilty on 114 of 115 charges by cheekily asking what that means for his tally of Premier League titles. The Spanish ace, 35, won the league with United in 2013 but also finished runner-up to City in 2012, 2018 and 2021.
City have consistently denied any wrongdoing since 115 charges were brought against them by the Premier League in 2023. Although the sanctions are yet to be decided, De Gea has quipped about how City potentially being stripped of their titles could benefit his list of major honours.
Posting on X, De Gea said: “So…… Let’s talk. How many Premier League titles have I won then?”
The 35-year-old spent 12 years with United, making 545 appearances and winning the FA Cup, League Cup, Europa League and Premier League. After spending a year out of football, he signed for Fiorentina in 2024 and continues to be first-choice for the Italian side.
Man Utd sign starlet from Man City
United have completed the signing of midfielder David Eze from City. The Manchester Evening News reported that the move was close to being finalised in July.
The 16-year-old has signed a deal that also includes a pre-professional contract, ensuring he will be on pro terms once he turns 17. The teenage midfielder is the latest City player to make the switch to Old Trafford, arriving just days after fellow youngster Karrim Cassim.
A United club statement read: "Talented youngster David Eze has joined Manchester United. The central midfielder has joined the club after leaving Manchester City.
> "The 16-year-old, who progressed through the academy system at City, has also been capped by England at youth level. Everyone wishes David the best of luck at United and welcomes him to the club."
