Rodri Breaks Silence on Man City's Guilty Verdict

Rodri causes stir as he becomes the first Man City player to break the silence on the guilty verdict.

Former Manchester City star Rodri has become the first player to talk about the issues relating to his old club. This week, City were found guilty of breaching 114 Premier League rules .

The investigation covers action taken by the English side between 2009 and 2018, and Rodri only joined in 2019 – playing up until 2026 when he left for Barcelona – but all of the club's success since their Abu Dhabi 2008 takeover has now been called into question.

Many feel as though the club should be stripped of their titles , while there is also talk of relegating Man City from the Premier League . It's unclear yet what the sanctions will be, and the Etihad outfit intend to appeal the guilty verdict.

The Prime Minister was asked for his opinion immediately after the punishment was announced, and he gave his thoughts straight away...

Spain star Rodri – who won four Premier League titles, the Champions League, two FA Cups, three League Cups and the Club World Cup during his time at Man City – has now spoken out on the matter. As quoted by BBC Sport, he said he still believes the club , which continues to insist upon its innocence:

> "They always express the confidence that they never did something wrong and we believe in that. Until the moment they are proved wrong, we will believe the club. They always tell us the confidence they have on the innocence."

He then went on to reference when City were cleared of separate financial fair play charges by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in 2020, having initially been given a two-year ban from European competitions by UEFA.

Rodri explained why that overturned case continues to give him confidence that his former club will win in the courts once again: "We had the example of 2020 that the process was the same and at the end nothing happened. We have faced something similar, we had a similar judicial process. Different accusation but similar process.

> "There as well in the first instance we were found guilty, but we believed in the club and the innocence that the club maintained and in the end we ended up acquitted. So, I believe in the justice system, and I believe in the innocence of the club."

In perhaps the most eye-catching part of the interview, Rodri also claimed that his achievements with Man City cannot be taken away from him, regardless of any ruling. He stated:

> "What we did, they cannot take out of us. It's something that is not paid by money. It's paid with effort, with the damage, with, you know, being shoulder to shoulder every day.

> "I can tell you that everything was deserved, and I'm glad that I could live one of the best eras of English football in here."

His comments have caused a fair stir online, with many debating how valid it is to claim that their success has not been 'paid for by money' when the club are accused of breaching financial rules.
