Man Utd's Shea Lacey Scores 'Ridiculous' Goal on International Duty
· GiveMeSport
Explore Michael Carrick's management of Man Utd winger Shea Lacey amid his success with England U-20.
So far this season, Lacey has started just one game for United's senior squad, which came against Brighton in the Carabao Cup.
The young winger scored just after less than 10 minutes, but then he failed to come off the bench against Fulham in the Premier League days later.
In the Premier League, Lacey has played just 10 minutes for United and 18 minutes in the Champions League, and is perhaps being treated unfairly by Carrick.
Considering United are struggling in the Premier League at the moment, Lacey isn't being given the opportunities he might have expected.
After Lacey struck against Brighton in the Carabao Cup, the 19-year-old may have been hoping to receive some minutes in the Premier League against Fulham.
United were 1-0 down after 63 minutes and chasing the game, but Carrick opted to ignore Lacey in the final minutes.
Eventually, Matheus Cunha equalised for the Red Devils with a deflected strike from range, while Lacey watched on from the bench.
It was a similar situation against rivals Manchester City, with the Red Devils spending 30 minutes 1-0 down against 10 men, but Carrick only made two changes in that game.
There won't be many who are expecting Lacey to start every single week, but there's no doubt he deserves more regular minutes for the Red Devils.
Even just throwing him on at the end of a game when they are looking to find an equaliser could be beneficial, especially as he's a player with such confidence and fearlessness.
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick is going through a tricky period at Old Trafford.
Carrick has been made to look even sillier in terms of his treatment of Lacey after the goal he scored for England's under-20s this week.
The youngster received the ball out wide before skinning an Italian defender, placing a phenomenal finish into the top corner with his left foot.
The finish, described as "ridiculous" by journalist Steven Railston , shows Carrick what he could be missing.
Giving Lacey minutes at the end of the game against tired legs could be exactly what United need when chasing games, but Carrick is barely giving him an opportunity.
