Chelsea player ratings vs Arsenal as Rogers stars, Palmer quiet and Martinez mistake costly

· FootballLondon

football.london rates the Chelsea players following the Blues' 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon

Chelsea needed to make a statement at the Emirates Stadium against Premier League champions Arsenal - but instead it marked Xabi Alonso's first defeat as Blues manager.

Chelsea made a rapid start in north London. Morgan Rogers, who was wanted by the Gunners in the summer transfer window, opened the scoring with a fantastic volley into the bottom corner with just over a minute on the clock.

Arsenal thought they equalised moments later after Riccardo Calafiori scrambled the ball in but Ezri Konsa was deemed in an offside position after a VAR intervention.

The Gunners were level 25 minutes in, though, with former Chelsea man Kai Havertz scoring against his old club once again. The German's shot crept past Emiliano Martinez at his near post to level the score in a sunny north London.

Arsenal took the lead moments after the second-half got underway with Martin Odegaard finishing past Martinez following an intelligent dummy from Havertz. Chelsea's midfield was nowhere to be seen, and in truth, it was far too straightforward for the hosts.

Unfortunately for Chelsea, it finished 2-1 to Mikel Arteta's men. Below, football.london rates the Chelsea players out of 10 based on their performance.
