Danish Media Cast Patrick Dorgu Verdict After Norway 3-2 Denmark

· GiveMeSport

Danish media have cast their verdict on Manchester United star Patrick Dorgu's performance against Norway.

Manchester United star Patrick Dorgu played 75 minutes for Denmark on Thursday night as Brian Riemer's side lost 3-2 to Norway in Oslo.

A brace from Erling Haaland and a strike from Oscar Bobb cancelled out Mikkel Damsgaard and Rasmus Hojlund's strikes, condemning the Danes to defeat in their first competitive match since failing to qualify for the World Cup back in March.

The Scandinavian nation are under pressure to turn things around following that abject disappointment, although despite this scrutiny from the media, they were complimentary of Dorgu's display on Thursday.

The versatile wide man was deployed off the right, a role he has been used in on the odd occasion under Michael Carrick at Old Trafford.

However, the Red Devils boss has seemingly ditched this positional ploy this term, using Dorgu primarily off the left so far, which might be a mistake based on what the player was able to produce in Oslo.

Dorgu has been criticised for some of his early season displays as a left-winger for United this term. Traditionally a wing-back, the Dane has fallen victim to the change in management at the north-west club, with Carrick moving on from Ruben Amorim's back three system.

With Denmark lacking natural wide forwards, Dorgu was selected off the right in the Nations League clash with Norway, and he impressed in his 75 minutes on the pitch.

Danish media waxed lyrical about Dorgu's display when evaluating each player individually.

> “The goals didn’t come from him, but Patrick Dorgu was a thorn in the side of the Norwegian defence several times," Danish publication Bold.dk wrote.

> “It suited Denmark to have the Manchester United player so far up the pitch on the right side, and he looks like a man who is here to stay in that position.

> "His final minutes on the pitch, however, drag the performance down a bit.”

Dorgu's versatility has often been seen as a stick to beat him with, with many claiming that it means he's not quite good enough in any single position.

However, his encouraging showing on the right side of Denmark's attack is perhaps an indication that this unconventional role might actually be where he can thrive, and many close to the player believe this.

Manchester United have made a shaky start to the season under Michael Carrick

United journalist Tyrone Marshall revealed over the summer that those close to Dorgu have held the opinion that right wing is Dorgu's best position for a while.

However, with Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo occupying this space at Old Trafford, opportunities may be few and far between for the 21-year-old on this side for his club.
