Veteran Premier League manager Sam Allardyce claims one player shouldn't even be at Manchester United right now
Veteran manager Sam Allardyce claims one Manchester United player shouldn’t be at the club following the team’s poor start to the season.
The Red Devils are currently 12th in the Premier League table after winning just one of their opening five fixtures.
United’s only league win prior to the international break was against promoted Ipswich Town. They began their campaign with a shock 2-0 defeat away at Hull City, who also went up from the Championship last season, and have since drawn against Everton and Fulham .
They were also beaten 1-0 at Old Trafford by local rivals Manchester City , who played most of the match with 10 men after Phil Foden was sent off in the 23rd minute.
United hammered Champions League debutants Sabah 4-0, but a string of poor domestic results, plus defeat to Brighton in the Carabao Cup, means the pressure has intensified on head coach Michael Carrick.
It’s understood that United chiefs aren’t planning to replace Carrick as things stand, although the former midfielder will be expected to get the team’s season back on track with a win over struggling Tottenham on October 10.
Carrick’s men failed to convince at Craven Cottage on Sunday. Only a late Matheus Cunha equaliser saved them from a potential crisis.
Former United captain Gary Neville was particularly scathing of the team’s performance against Fulham, saying the early second-half display was the worst he’d seen in more than 45 years.
> "I've watched Man United since the age of five and that's the worst 15 minutes I've ever seen," Neville said on Sky Sports.
> "Absolutely pathetic. I've never seen such a lack of effort. What must [Michael] Carrick be thinking?"
The Former United right-back didn't hold when asked his thoughts post match...
Meanwhile, Sam Allardyce, who has managed more Premier League clubs (nine) than any other coach, has singled out Marcus Rashford as a player who shouldn’t be at Manchester United.
> “Marcus Rashford shouldn’t be there,” Allardyce said on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast. “I don’t know what [United] got offered but clearly they thought it wasn’t enough and they’d get more.
> “If he did Barcelona and they didn’t sign him after a full season there, they said he did alright, and signing [Anthony] Gordon from Newcastle at a much bigger fee than United wanted for Marcus Rashford, I think tells you a story.”
Rashford has made six appearances for Man Utd so far this season but failed to score a goal or register an assist.
