Man Utd Players Rated And Slated After Fulham Draw
· GiveMeSport
How we rated the Manchester United players in the draw with the Whites
Manchester United grabbed a last-gasp draw away at Fulham on Sunday afternoon, thanks to a deflected Matheus Cunha strike.
Cunha's effort eventually cancelled out Lisandro Martinez's own goal, that had looked to be sending the Red Devils to another defeat in the Premier League .
United sit 12th in the table, with the stalemate against the Whites their second of the season, meaning they have only won once in their opening five fixtures.
Once again it was a far from vintage Manchester United performance, with Michael Carrick coming under increasing pressure in the dugout.
Here, GIVEMESPORT runs through the players and give them a school report card rating on how they fared at Craven Cottage.
Senne Lammens B-
Made a good save to deny Josh King and then an even better one to palm a Sander Berge shot away low to his right. More was to come as he made a super stop with his foot to thwart Josh King again and came out quickly off his line to halt Alex Iwobi in his tracks when through.
Was United's best player in the first half, but could he have stopped the Martinez own goal that bobbled past him? Probably. He didn't look like he knew if he could handle it or not, if it would have been a pass back.
Diogo Dalot - C
Was given a torrid time early on by Alex Iwobi and Antonee Robinson down his side.
Did better in offensive positions than defensive ones, which was a common theme for the Manchester United backline.
Lisandro Martinez - D
Had one brilliant strike early on in the match that Bernd Leno did superbly well to palm away. At the other end, where he's paid to do his best work, was less than impressive.
Looked at sixes and sevens when Fulham got the ball into the box, with Lammens and some profligate home shooting getting him out of trouble and then scored an own goal when he could not sort out his feet after a Lammens save. What was he trying to do?
Harry Maguire - C
Much like his central defensive teammate, looked at sea when Fulham attacked and was perhaps lucky not to concede earlier than United did in the match.
Didn't actually offer much as an attacking threat either, but gets a better mark than Martinez because he didn't score an own goal.
Luke Shaw - C
Did not look comfortable when up against Josh King, who has enjoyed a good start to the season.
Wasn't exactly up against a wide player who wanted to hug the touchline and get at him, but instead struggled as King came narrow and got into good positions inside the United penalty area. Offered very little in an attacking sense.
Youri Tielemans - C
Delivered some dangerous crosses into the box in the first half, but his impact on the match dwindled as the game wore on.
Maybe it's time for a change in the starting lineup in the midfield. Carlos Baleba was on the bench here...
Kobbie Mainoo - B
Broke up play effectively and was always the one to get United on the front foot. Linked up well with Tielemans in the first half and drove the team on in the second period.
He is United's star at the moment, with everything good going through him.
Bruno Fernandes - C-
Had very little impact on the match, not for the first time this season.
When he got into the right position he did not hit the back of the net. He simply had to score when set up by Matheus Cunha, but could only strike the post with the goal gaping.
Marcus Rashford - C+
He looks so bright and a much happier player under Michael Carrick now, but he's just not on it when it comes to his finishing.
He spurned a number of good opportunities in the first half - none really clear cut it must be said - but could have done so much better from a lot of promising positions and runs at the Fulham backline.
Bryan Mbeumo - C+
Tested Leno with a superb curling strike in the second half that on another day would have found the far corner of the Fulham net.
Looked one of United's brighter players in the first half and was one of the bigger threats in the second period as well.
Matheus Cunha - B-
Did well to get away from David Affengruber as he attempted to shield the ball out of play to put the ball on a plate for Fernandes, but he could only hit the post.
A low shot in the second period was well saved by Leno, while he teed up Mbeumo for a great effort too. Finally got his reward with a deflected effort that rescued a point for the visitors.
Substitutes
Joshua Zirkzee - C
Was the first substitute thrown on but saw very little of the ball and had nothing to do with the equaliser.
Mason Mount - C
Was a surprise to see him come on for Mainoo. Did very little while on the pitch.
Patrick Dorgu - C+
Gets a slightly better mark for giving the assist for the Cunha goal.
