Tottenham Suffer New Humiliation After Fulham Vs Man Utd

Spurs are rock bottom of the Premier League table
It is as the Premier League heads into the first international break of the season that the table starts to take shape and people can take stock and see how things are looking for all of the 20 top flight teams.
This international break is a longer one than normal, with the September and October breaks amalgamated into one, rather than stopping twice, meaning there is no domestic football for three weeks.
And for Tottenham Hotspur the Premier League table does not make for good reading. Following the Super Sunday clash between Fulham and Manchester United at Craven Cottage, Spurs go into a three-week hiatus rock bottom of the Premier League table.
After back-to-back 17th-placed finishes in the top tier, it appeared that things could not get much worse for the Lilywhites. Alas, that has not turned out to be the case.
Spurs supporters now have three whole weeks to avoid looking at the standings in the newspapers, online or on their mobiles, as Spurs look up at every other Premier League team above them.
Played five, won zero, drawn two, lost three. Goals scored two, goals conceded eight. That's the horrific record Roberto De Zerbi's side have so far this season.
The dismal start to the season has already led to questions being asked about Roberto De Zerbi's position at the club, such is the reactive nature of Premier League football in 2026.
Tottenham did something the supporters have not been used to in the summer transfer window - they backed a manager with huge investment in the playing squad. De Zerbi was given funds to transform an ailing squad, put his own stamp on the dressing room in N17 and bring in the players he wanted to change things.
Bottom of the table
Spurs spent more than £300million bringing in ten new signings in the summer transfer window, with De Zerbi allowing 17 players to depart north London too. It was a massive change.
Such an overhaul requires patience as players get used to a new environment and new way of playing. But how much patience do the fans, and the owners have?
Reports suggest De Zerbi is not in any danger of losing his job just yet, with Fabrizio Romano reporting on Sunday that the Lewis Family remain confident in the Italian that he can turn things around .
“Tottenham decided to back Roberto De Zerbi in the summer by trusting his ideas," Romano said on his YouTube channel.
> So, the message from Tottenham, as of today, remains a message of confidence in Roberto De Zerbi
> “At the moment I don’t have any indication of Tottenham exploring different ways. I’m told that Tottenham still believe in the manager. I’m told Tottenham knew it was going to take time."
Sacking the manager, five games into the new season, after giving him the keys to the kingdom, would be absolute folly. There have been moments to be positive about De Zerbi's football coming through, but there are also worrying signs, not least the lack of goals at the top end of the pitch and the concession of them at the other end. Spurs are a team in dire straits right now, but had they made the most of their early domination against Everton and then Aston Villa, things would have been very different.
De Zerbi now says goodbye to his biggest players for a few weeks, with the international break setting in and the Italian said it might not be a bad thing that they have all gone on their merry way given the situation they find themselves in.
Spurs dropping to the bottom of the Premier League table for the first time since 2009 is an embarrassment, no matter how early in the season it is. And De Zerbi has a massive task on his hands to transform the club's fortunes.
After all, the only way is up.
