Brighton 3-0 Arsenal: Gabriel and Konsa Called Out For ‘Amateurish’ Performance
· GiveMeSport
Arsenal were hammered by Brighton and two of the Gunners' players have been heavily criticised online.
Arsenal's strong start to the Premier League season took a major hit after they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Brighton at the Amex. The first goal came just after the half-hour mark, when Pascal Gross turned and shot from the edge of the penalty area, beating the outstretched arms of David Raya .
It got worse for the Gunners just 15 minutes later, as Greek attacker Charalampos Kostoulas was given space to receive the ball 25 yards from goal, before having all the time to thrash home a powerful, low-driven effort into the bottom left corner.
The second half wasn't any different, as Chema Andres towered above the rest for Brighton, heading home from a corner to get his side's third of the game.
The result sees Mikel Arteta's side fall from the top spot in the league, with Brighton now just two points behind after their fantastic start to the season. For many Arsenal fans on social media, it was clear which two of their players were causing their problems at the Amex.
The Gunners are considered to have one of the best defences in the league, but many fans were left unimpressed by their two central defenders, Gabriel and Ezri Konsa, as they conceded three goals away from home, some of which could have been prevented.
One fan said: "Brighton away are the type of games Konsa will get exposed in." They weren't alone in their thoughts, as another also said, "Why do both CBs keep dropping off the man every time? Very amateurish defending from both Konsa and Gabriel."
The two defenders are yet to form a solid relationship with each other, with both only lining up with each other on two other occasions since Konsa made the move to north London this summer.
Fans were quick to point this out, as one said: "Gabriel is having a bad game, him and Konsa are on a completely different page."
Another fan also said: "That's on Gabriel and Konsa; neither of them is stepping up. Just let him take touches and hit one."
Following the disappointing display from Arsenal, many fans as well as manager Mikel Arteta will be eagerly awaiting the return of their star defender, William Saliba.
Saliba remains sidelined after a back injury that has been persisting since the 2026 World Cup , where he had been frequently featuring for France . The only positive of the outcome is that Saliba was able to avoid having surgery on the injury, but rather go through a rehabilitation programme.
It is expected that the Frenchman will return in November, but he could be rushed back sooner if Arsenal continue to leak goals in defence.
