Aston Villa Stars Rated and Slated After 3-0 Win vs Tottenham

· GiveMeSport

GIVEMESPORT has rated every Aston Villa player's performance from their Premier League clash with Tottenham on Saturday afternoon.

Aston Villa turned in a huge second-half performance against Tottenham Hotspur to claim their first Premier League win of the season.

Unai Emery's side were poor in the first-half as Spurs failed to put away their chances, with Zion Suzuki in fine form. But a first-half stoppage-time strike from Johan Manzambi, followed by second-half goals from Nicolas Jackson and Emi Buendia, gave the Midlands side all three points.

After a poor start to their campaign, the Villans will be delighted to be heading into the international break with their first three points of the campaign, and this is how GIVEMESPORT rated the performance of each player.

Zion Suzuki - A+

A flawless performance from the Japan international, who was the entire reason why the teams were level for as long as they were. He has had a difficult start to life in England since his move from Parma in the summer, but this showing was exactly why the club were willing to let Emi Martinez leave.

Excellent with his feet and his shot-stopping, a Man of the Match performance.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka - D

The West Ham loanee got the nod ahead of Matty Cash in the right-back position, and he had an okay showing. Defensively, he managed to keep Omar Marmoush quiet for the most part, but he was shaky in possession, and ultimately the manager decided to take him off at half-time to shore things up.

Victor Lindelof - B-

When everyone is fit, Lindelof probably isn't a first-choice defender for Emery. But he showed his experience and quality with a strong performance up against a number of Spurs attackers, and largely limited them to scraps throughout the game.

Tyrone Mings - C+

With Pau Torres out and Taylor Harwood-Bellis not selected, Mings came into the team and showed his experience with a strong display. He used his physicality and intelligence to ensure he was in the right place more often than not. Will be disappointed by the two goals that were conceded late on.

Matteo Ruggeri - B+

A first start at left-back for the Italian in the Premier League, and he was targeted by the Spurs attack in the first-half as all of their play came down his side.

After initially struggling to cope with being overloaded, he managed to put together a strong display, including winning 100% of his aerial duels, eight clearances, and five interceptions. Plenty to build upon in the absence of Ian Maatsen, as he looks to claim the position as his own going forward.

Joao Gomes - B-

After a nightmare debut against Brighton on the opening day of the season, the Brazilian came back into the team at the earliest opportunity against Spurs and showed why the club signed him.

Gomes completed 92% of his passes, won eight duels, and made three interceptions in a fine defensive midfield performance. A sign of things to come.

Boubacar Kamara - B+

The Frenchman has regularly been regarded as one of Emery's most important players, and he showed it again in this game. Kamara won 100% of his tackles and aerial duels in midfield and also picked up an assist.

If Villa are going to be successful, they need him at his best, and this was a sign that he is getting back to it.

Johan Manzambi - A-

It was a slow start for the Swiss international on his debut for the team, but he grew into the game well and there were signs that his partnership with Nicolas Jackson could really blossom.

Manzambi carried the ball very well in midfield, completed 89% of his passes, including 11/12 in the opposition half, won 4/7 duels, and topped the performance off with a goal and assist. A brilliant display from a quality young footballer.

Emi Buendia - A-

Buendia has been written off regularly at Aston Villa, but he continues to impress with his performances on the pitch and that is what matters. The Argentine worked hard out of possession, winning 8/15 ground duels and 2/2 aerial duels, while he also won 3/6 tackles, covering 12.1km in the game (more than anyone else).

Add to that the absolutely stunning goal that he scored, which proved to be the winner, and he deserves to be praised for his performance, and keep his side in the team despite all the big-money signings that arrived in the summer.

John McGinn - C

It may not have been the usual captain's performance from the flying Scot that we have been accustomed to, but McGinn did exactly what he was asked to do and was professional both defensively and going forward.

Gets rewarded by being credited with the assist for Buendia's fine strike, but his leadership and energy were the most important parts of his game in this clash.

Nicolas Jackson - A-

There have been glimpses of quality from the Senegal international since his big-money move from Chelsea in the summer, but his performance against Spurs looked like he was finally back up to full speed.

His constant running and pressing caused problems for the defence for the entire game, and he showed great quality with his strike for the second goal. He also completed 100% of his passes, and five of his 10 dribbling attempts to help relieve pressure, in a top all-round performance that will have had Emery purring.

SUBSTITUTES

Matty Cash - E

Came on at half-time to help strengthen the defence, but he struggled against the pace and trickery of Savio, Marmoush and Mohammed Kudus. Was booked, won just one duel in the game, and only completed two passes in his half on the pitch. Needs to do better or risks losing his place.

George Hemmings - D

The youngster came on to offer fresh legs, but wasn't really given the chance to make more of an impact.

Ross Barkley - C

Barkley was brought on to keep the ball better in a difficult stage of the game, and completed 100% of his pass attempts. Couldn't do much to prevent the goals that went in after he came on.

Ibrahim Mbaye - N/A

Tammy Abraham - N/A
