Matthias Jaissle will have to switch things about in regards to his Newcastle team to take on Hull City due to a number of absent players

Matthias Jaissle will have to shuffle his pack on Saturday when his Newcastle United team return to Premier League action at home to Hull City.

In action at the start of the week with the Magpies falling to a 4-1 humbling at Leeds United, Jaissle and his team will be looking to get back on track when the unbeaten Tigers travel to Tyneside.

Newcastle will have to do without Amar Dedic, Nico Gonzalez, Jacob Ramsey, Anthony Elanga, Joelinton, William Osula and Dan Burn for the game at St James' Park.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Jaissle said: " [We have] no new players coming back for the Hull game . We have some injured players missing, but we use that as an opportunity for others.

> "Anthony [Elanga] and Amar [Dedic] will not be able to play on Saturday. JJ [Jacob Ramsey] is injured. Hopefully after the international break our injury list is shorter."

Dedic will be missing for this weekend's game due to a minor hamstring injury, thus opening the door for Tino Livramento to be handed his first start of the 2026/27 season.

The England international made his return from injury in the recent 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, duly coming off the bench in the following encounters away at Millwall and Leeds.

Livramento got 32 minutes of action under his belt in the defeat at Leeds, boosting his fitness levels in the process ahead of a potential first start of the campaign for the Magpies.

The right-back will be hoping for better luck on the injury front this term after such a stop-start 2025/26 season, with a calf injury unfortunately seeing him miss out on a place in England's World Cup squad after suffering the issue days before their opener against Croatia.

Tino Livramento's 2025/26 season in numbers

- Appearances: 26 - Starts: 19 - Minutes: 1,810 - Goals: 0 - Assists: 1

Dedic has made a big impression on Tyneside since joining from Benfica for £30m in August.

The Bosnian has caught the eye with his performances down the right and he will be a miss for Newcastle going into this weekend's home clash against Hull.

Jaissle has a very good replacement for Dedic, though, in Livramento, and he desperately needs improved defensive performances.

The ex-Chelsea academy star has established himself as one of the best right-backs in the Premier League during his time at Newcastle, but now he has a fight on his hands to regain his place in the team on a permanent basis due to the performances of Dedic .

It could be a fascinating battle between the duo over the coming months, with Livramento now having the chance to try and make the position his own with a strong showing against Hull.

Whether it is Dedic or Livramento who starts for Newcastle, Jaissle has two excellent players to choose from and he will no doubt have a selection dilemma on his hands when they are both at the peak of their powers.
