Porto vs Man City - Champions League RECAP: Erling Haaland seals win at the Dragao with brace in ill-tempered clash at Dragao - Real Madrid beat Inter Milan 2-1

· DailyMail

Relive Daily Mail Sport's coverage of Manchester City's win over Porto in the Champions League.

A winning start for Manchester City.

Was it entertaining? Not really. Was it vintage City? Not at all. But did they get the job done? They did indeed.

You know what they say: a win is a win. And that win for Manchester City was a great start to their Champions League campaign.

I mean, where would they be without Erling Haaland? The Norwegian now has five goals in his first four games this season; he has started on absolute fire.

The early signs are that they are still very much a work in progress under Enzo Maresca, but they have started on the right track with four wins from four.

Enzo Maresca couldn't have had a much better start to life at Manchester City, could he?

That's three Premier League wins from three and one Champions League win from one. No wonder he is smiling so much.

When City lost the Community Shield in the way that they did, I thought they were off to a really rough start to this campaign. I really worried for them.

And while they haven't played the silkiest football, they are getting some damn good results.

Let's see how long he and his side can keep this run going.

Pat Nevin, former Chelsea winger, on BBC Radio 5 Live:

> We should call Haaland 'Inevitable Erling' these days. > > The Norwegian striker is like Thanos of football; he at least smiles when destroying the footballing population. > > Haaland has just scored his 36th Champions League goal for Manchester City, equalling Sergio Agüero as joint-most for the Citizens in the competition. > > Now that is quite the feat considering he has only been here since 2022; he's done it all in double quick time. > > It won't be long until he surpasses Aguero's mark.

I'll tell you what: that was a big win for Manchester City.

You are going to hear that they were sloppy, and that they didn't play that well in the second half. But I'm telling you, to not only win at Porto, but also keep a clean sheet, is no mean feat.

City could have easily scored four, five, or even six goals, while Porto barely gave Gianluigi Donnarumma a worry, even when the keeper was being a daftie at the back.

It may not have been an enjoyable vintage City display, but when you get three points like they just have, and dominate like they did for the majority, then that doesn't matter.

Enzo Maresca has had a great start to life at City.

Erling Haaland is absolutely fuming right now. And I mean, fuming.

That sounds weird considering he has just bagged a brace to win Manchester City the game, but I think he is still miffed at how he was booked at the end.

Haaland is normally a man to keep his cool and just laugh things off, but not today.

I don't think I have ever seen Haaland get that filled with rage before, and yeah, I have watched his battles with Gabriel.

The man truly lost it and is still angry.

A winning start for Manchester City.

I would say it was a game of two halves, with City playing better in the first half and struggling in the second. But they scored both of their goals after the break, so that feels wrong.

A bit of a mixed bag from City, but hey, they are leaving Porto with all the points, so they won't care.

That's four wins from four to start the new era for Enzo Maresca.

OOOOOO.

It's. All. Kicking. Off.

Erling Haaland has completely lost his cool after being dragged about by Rosario and goes right at him. His blood is boiling.

All of a sudden, there is a huge melee, with the referee caught up in the middle of it all. It's pushes galore.

Haaland and Rosario both get carded at the end of it.

THAT'LL DO IT!

Erling Haaland finishes the job Manchester City, at last, and in turn equals a Manchester City legend.

Rayan Ait-Nouri slides the ball back to him, and Haaland is never, ever missing from there.

Job done.
