Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid and Napoli vs Arsenal - Champions League RECAP: Reaction as Premier League sides claim vital victories

· DailyMail

Relive Daily Mail Sport's coverage of Wednesday night's Champions League group phase action, as Liverpool beat Atletico Madrid and Arsenal dispatched of Napoli.

Right, it's time for me to dash now.

It's fair to say it was another very enjoyable night of Champions League action. When is it not? Let's be real.

It was especially enjoyable if you are a Liverpool or Arsenal fan, as both of the Premier League sides started their European campaigns with a win.

The Reds made a superb comeback to dispatch Atletico Madrid at Anfield, with Alexis Mac Allister morphing into prime Steven Gerrard to score the winner. You simply must watch that back, cracker.

And Martin Odegaard seemed to do the same as he smashed in a stunner to secure Arsenal yet another 1-0 win. They just love them, don't they?

Anyway, that's two out of three nights done... we'll see you tomorrow.

You didn't think I was going to forget about Arsenal's highlights too, did you?

Well, I haven't. If you are a Gunner and want to watch your dominant display over Napoli, then I have you covered.

Enjoy.

It's starting to get late, and I have a perfect bed time watch for all of you.

That's right, the highlights from Anfield are out.

This was a match packed with goals, drama, and much more - it's well worth the watch.

A quick word for Florian Wirtz.

I think we are quick to critcise the German when he struggles, so we need to give him his flowers when he shines.

He may not have notched up a goal involvement tonight, but boy was he a joy to watch at times.

I still have that brilliant link-up play, run, and final pass to set up Bradley Barcola in the second half in my head. It was incredibly impressive transitional play from the midfielder.

We all know that Barcola should have finished his dinner, and if he had, then Wirtz would have notched up a deserved assist.

Either way, it was a super performance. Very promising.

Oh yeah, and the small matter of a silky smooth goal; it really was a classy finish.

Not a bad day's work for the Hungarian.

We can't not talk about this, can't we?

I'm not sure what kind of black magic Marcos Llorente has put on Anfield and Liverpool, but whenever he plays there, he always manages to score. He loves it so much he's named his dog after the ground (I'm not joking).

OK, now that sounds silly, but honestly, it's almost silly how many goals he has scored at Anfield now, considering the Spaniard barely ever manages to find the net.

Of all the players to score 10 or more Champions League goals, Marcos Llorente is the only one to score at least 50 per cent against a specific opponent (5/10 vs Liverpool).

And every single one has come at Anfield.

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal boss, speaking to TNT Sports:

On Martin Odegaard:

There is a reason Arsenal are called the Gunners...

They just couldn't stop firing shots tonight against Napoli; it was relentless.

In fact, Arsenal’s 26 shots was their most on record (since 2003-04) in a single Champions League match, and also the most Napoli have faced in that time.

The fact that they only managed to net one of them is actually quite crazy, given how dominant they were.

But hey, the result is all that matters, and they got the job done.
