Fans cast verdict on Man Utd loanee Chido Obi as his highlights for Willem II vs Ajax emerge
Manchester United have started their season in poor fashion after winning just one of their opening four Premier League games, despite strengthening their squad in the summer.
The club splashed out to revamp the midfield by bringing in Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Carlos Baleba for Michael Carrick, while Marcus Rashford returned from his loan spell at Barcelona to rejoin the attack and bolster the options for the manager.
But as a result of that business, the club made the decision to allow some youngsters to make a move away from Old Trafford temporarily to continue their development elsewhere this season, and that includes talented youngster Chido Obi.
The young Danish forward has been tipped for a bright future since his days in the Arsenal academy, where he famously scored 10 goals in a single game for the Gunners back in 2023.
A surprise move to Old Trafford followed, with Obi making his first-team debut for the club as a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League in February 2025, aged just 17.
But with Benjamin Sesko, Joshua Zirkzee, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Rashford all capable of playing as a centre forward for the first team this season, the club decided that the teenager would be better suited by developing elsewhere this season, and he joined Eredivisie side Willem II on loan for the season earlier this month.
So far, the 6ft 2 forward has been restricted to just two substitute appearances, including this past weekend when he took on 36-time Dutch champions Ajax, where he came on for the final 20 minutes in a 5-1 defeat.
Chido came on in the game with the score at 3-0 to the home side, and made an immediate impact by playing a huge role in the goal his side scored, with excellent hold-up play and good awareness.
After footage emerged of his performance during the game, many Man Utd fans are encouraged by what they are seeing, even after such a short spell away from the club.
One fan stated that you could already see improvements in his game, despite only a short cameo, while another stated that the only thing stopping him from becoming a 'top, top centre forward' has his ball-striking ability.
@UtdRed commented on the huge improvements that Chido has made to his game in the last 12-18 months, praising his role in the goal Willem scored, while a fan of the Dutch side also revealed that he was happy with how the youngster has developed since arriving this summer.
Chido will be hoping to continue his development against Fortuna Sittard on Saturday night in the next game, and he will be hoping that his performance off the bench against Ajax could be enough to earn him a start in a team that are yet to win any of their six league games so far this season.
