Serie A is already gearing up for a return to action, with the midweek round kicking off tomorrow and continuing through Thursday.
Beyond the action on the pitch, though, the transfer market always features among the day's biggest talking points.
Let's take a look at the biggest stories involving the league's top clubs.
😳 Juventus: Retegui also among the names in the mix?
Juventus are planning their January moves with the aim of strengthening an attack that has lacked a cutting edge in front of goal. According to Tuttomercatoweb.com, the first name on their list is Atletico Madrid's Alexander Sørloth, who could even leave on loan. Monaco's Folarin Balogun is also admired, but a deal would be more expensive.
The alternatives are Antonio Raimondo, owned by Bologna and currently at Frosinone, and Italian-Argentine striker Mateo Retegui. Raimondo could primarily be an option for June, while Retegui is an established player whose wages, however, are completely out of reach.
🇫🇷 Milan eye a young French talent for their defence
Milan continue to assess defensive reinforcements and, according to TMW, have set their sights on Raphael Le Guen, Brest's 20-year-old French centre-back. Rossoneri scouts have watched him several times and returned positive reports. Amorim also rates the youngster, who is under contract until 2029.
The cost of a deal would be affordable, but Brest's stance remains to be seen, with the club reluctant to lose their talented youngster as early as January. Meanwhile, Milan are also keeping other options open, from Gonçalo Inácio to Reggiani and Tiago Gabriel, as they look for the right reinforcement.
⚡️ Inter interested in Shakhtar wide man
Inter continue to plan for the future and are assessing new signings to make their squad even more competitive. As reported by Tuttomercatoweb.com, one of the wide players they are tracking is Pedrinho, the Shakhtar Donetsk man valued at around €25 million. The Nerazzurri will continue to monitor him to see whether there is scope to open negotiations.
Meanwhile, Carlos Augusto is close to extending his contract after an excellent start to the season: the Brazilian is expected to sign a new deal until 2031. Inter are also looking at midfield, where Calhanoglu's future remains unresolved and interest is growing in Alessandro Romano, the Roma-owned talent currently at Cagliari.
🤑 Napoli: Anguissa's shocking demands! And interest from abroad...
Zambo Anguissa's future at Napoli is increasingly uncertain. According to Tuttomercatoweb.com, the midfielder is asking for a four-year contract worth €6 million net per season, totalling €24 million. That demand is far removed from the club's plans: a year ago, they were close to agreeing a deal worth €4 million annually, while the Cameroonian currently earns around €2.5 million plus bonuses.
There is also interest in the player from abroad: in recent months, Galatasaray were ready to submit a substantial offer, while interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia remains alive. Napoli had decided to keep faith with Anguissa, hoping to reach an agreement on an extension, but under the current terms, keeping him looks difficult.
🧐 Roma: January alternatives to Endrick
Roma continue to dream of signing Endrick, but Mourinho's resistance makes a move for the Real Madrid talent difficult. As a result, the Giallorossi hierarchy are assessing several alternatives ahead of the January transfer window. Among the names on their shortlist is Giorgi Kvernadze, the Georgian winger born in 2003 who belongs to Frosinone and has caught the eye with five goals across the league and Coppa Italia. He would offer different qualities from those already in Roma's squad, making him an interesting option to broaden their attacking options.
The deal, however, looks likely to be expensive. As reported by TMW, Frosinone's valuation is already high, and it could take between €20 million and €25 million to convince president Stirpe. Roma are nevertheless continuing to explore the international market, where William Gomes, Jamie Leweling and Jamie Gittens remain on their radar. A move for Kvernadze does have one potential advantage, though: his familiarity with Italian football could shorten the settling-in period compared with a signing from abroad.
⚠️ Lazio: Premier League interest in three key players?
Kenneth Taylor scored his first goal of the season in Saturday's clash with Parma, reaffirming his status as one of Lazio's most important players. The Dutch midfielder is considered one of the Biancocelesti's most prized assets, alongside Nuno Tavares and Provstgaard. As reported by Il Messaggero, Gennaro Gattuso wants to keep all three, considering them essential to his footballing plans. The risk of losing one of them, however, remains real, particularly with the next transfer window approaching.
The coach's main concern is potential interest from the Premier League's big clubs, who could come knocking at Formello in an attempt to lure away the Biancocelesti's best talents. Lazio may not have the financial muscle to turn down every offer from England. For that reason, according to the newspaper, any bid for Taylor or the other most sought-after players would have to exceed €40 million. Gattuso hopes he will not have to part with his key men and see the team's ambitions scaled back.
🤕 Fiorentina: Pongracic to miss Atalanta? Ranieri and Atta...
Fiorentina are preparing for Thursday's clash with Atalanta with several fitness concerns to monitor. The biggest worry is Marin Pongracic, who was forced off during the match against Inter. The Croatian defender has a suspected hamstring problem, but the extent of the injury will not be known until the medical tests scheduled for tomorrow. Only after those examinations will it become clear whether the centre-back can be available for the next match.
The fitness of Luca Ranieri and Atta, both absent for the latest league fixture, also remains to be assessed. Both players have continued to train separately rather than rejoining the rest of the squad. The medical and coaching staff will therefore closely monitor the next training sessions for signs of progress and assess whether either could recover in time for the game against Atalanta.
