Napoli have announced that the club will appeal the recent decision to hand a two-match suspension to head coach Massimiliano Allegri following his outburst at the end of Saturday’s 3-3 draw against Roma.
Allegri was shown a red card for his passionate protests after Leonardo Balerdi’s late equaliser during Napoli’s 3-3 draw against Roma was deemed legal, without the need for the referee to go over to the monitor to review it.
He was reported to have told the fourth official Juan Luca Sacchi ‘if you don’t disallow this goal …’, before being shown the red card and then angrily shouted ‘what did I say? Tell me what I said?’ after being given his marching orders .
Allegri angrily took his jacket off, as he has done many times in the past, before storming off, only to walk back a few moments later while members of the Napoli staff tried to pull him away.
The Lega Serie A confirmed on Monday afternoon that they have handed Allegri a two-match suspension , which rules him out of Wednesday’s game against Monza and his return to his former club, Juventus, on Sunday.
In response, Napoli have released a statement on the club website confirming that they will appeal the head coach’s suspension.
> “SSC Napoli that, following a request for access to the documents, we will appeal the two-match ban imposed on coach Massimiliano Allegri.”
